Sunday's Best MLB No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Picks

(Odds Courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Milwaukee Brewers (-130) vs. Pittsburgh Pirates (+110) | O/U 8.5 (-102/-118

Starting Pitchers: Logan Henderson vs. Bailey Falter

Let's pick it up in the Steel City, where the Pirates (19-34) look to take three out of four games against the visiting Brewers (25-28). The Brew Crew will turn to Logan Henderson in the series finale, while the Buccos counter with Bailey Falter. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. ET from PNC Park in Pittsburgh, PA.

Falter has been more than serviceable for Pittsburgh this season, bringing in a 3.50 ERA (43rd) and a 1.13 WHIP (31st) over 10 starts (54 innings). The southpaw has found a ton of success against Milwaukee's current roster, limiting them to a slash line of .186/.255/.302 over 43 head-to-head at-bats. The Brewers are the 11th-best NRFI team this season at 28-25 (53%), while the Pirates are sixth at 30-23 (57%).

One of the main reasons Pittsburgh has been so profitable to the prop bet is simply because their offense is terrible. Over the last seven days specifically, the Pirates are 25th in wRC+ (80), 23rd in wOBA (.290) and 29th in ISO (.099). They're running into Henderson, who has been on a tear to start his career (three starts, 16 innings). The right-hander is 3-0 with a 1.69 ERA and a 0.81 WHIP. Give me the NRFI in this divisional showdown.

Bet: NRFI (-125

Seattle Mariners (-130) vs. Houston Astros (+110) | O/U 8.0 (-115/-105

Starting Pitchers: Luis Castillo vs. Colton Gordon

The Astros (27-25) have won two out of the first three games in their divisional series with the Mariners (29-22), so it's the M's who are looking to salvage a split this afternoon. They'll turn to Luis Castillo, while the 'Stros opt for Colton Gordon. This contest gets underway at 2:10 p.m. ET from Daikin Park in Houston, TX.

Like the above-mentioned Brewers, the Astros will also turn to a rookie in Gordon. This left-hander brings in a 5.59 ERA over two starts (9.2 innings), but the NRFI has cashed in both of those outings. He'll face a Mariners side that's a middle-of-the-pack 12th in first-inning runs per game (0.57) this season.

In that same category, the Astros are last in the MLB, scoring only 0.25 first-inning runs per game this year. Houston has been the third-best NRFI team in baseball at 32-20 (62%), including going 17-10 (63%) at home. They'll take on Luis Castillo (3.20 ERA), who has limited their lineup to a slash line of .203/.216/.252 over 123 at-bats. That includes the big guns of Jeremy Pena (7-for-20 with a double), Jose Altuve (3-for-16) and Isaac Paredes (3-for-14 with one home run), who are a combined 13-for-50 (.260) against him. I'll make a wager that these pitchers combine to keep a clean first frame.

Bet: NRFI (-130

San Diego Padres (+120) vs. Atlanta Braves (-142) | O/U 8.0 (-112/-108

Starting Pitchers: Dylan Cease vs. Spencer Schwellenbach

The Braves (25-26) bounced back with a 7-1 victory over the Padres (28-22) last night, setting up a marquee rubber match in Atlanta today. Dylan Cease heads to the bump for the Friars, while the Braves send Spencer Schwellenbach to the hill. First pitch is set for 4:10 p.m. ET from Truist Park in Atlanta, GA.

Schwellenbach should have no issues carving up the slumping Padres in this game. Their current roster is slashing just .128/.150/.179 against him over 39 at-bats. Additionally, over the last seven days, San Diego is dead last in both wRC+ (57) and wOBA (.246), while sitting 22nd in ISO (.130).

On the flip side, we're finally starting to see Cease find his top-tier form. The right-hander has posted a 4.50 ERA this season, but over his last three starts (20.1 innings), that number has dipped to 2.66. Cease will have to navigate a star-studded top-of-the-order, but considering his current form, I think he'll be up for the task. Give me the NRFI in the ATL this afternoon.
