Sunday's Best MLB No Runs First Inning Picks

(Odds Courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Detroit Tigers (+124) at Kansas City Royals (-148) | O/U 8.5 (-102/-118

Starting Pitchers: Keider Montero vs. Kris Bubic

Let's get things started in Kansas City, where the Tigers (38-21) are set to take on the Royals (31-28) in a rubber match. Keider Montero gets the nod for Detroit, while Kansas City sends Kris Bubic to the bump. First pitch is scheduled for 2:10 p.m. ET from Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, MO.

I'll gladly lock in the NRFI at -115 in this contest, considering Bubic, the best pitcher in baseball, is heading to the hill for the Royals. The left-hander has been lights out this season, leading the league in ERA (1.45), while ranking 14th in WHIP (1.01) and 20th in strikeouts (70). Detroit's top-of-the-lineup hitters of Gleyber Torres (0-for-8) and Colt Keith (0-for-1) are a combined 0-for-9 (.000) against Bubic. The Tigers are also coming off a 1-0 shutout loss yesterday. I don't anticipate them turning things around in this one.

The Royals, on the other hand, have been the best NRFI team in baseball, going 40-19 (68%) to the prop bet. The Tigers are ninth at 31-28 (53%). Kansas City will face Montero (4.54 ERA). Their top players who have head-to-head data, Bobby Witt Jr. (0-for-2) and Salvador Perez (1-for-3), are just a combined 1-for-5 (.200) against him with a single. Look for another low-scoring contest in this series finale, so give me the NRFI.

Bet: NRFI (-115)

Washington Nationals (+195) at Arizona Diamondbacks (-238) | O/U 9.0 (-105/-115

Starting Pitchers: Mitchell Parker vs. Corbin Burnes

The Nationals (28-30) notched their fourth straight win last night, and they're looking to break out the brooms against the Diamondbacks (27-31) this afternoon. The visitors will turn to Mitchell Parker, while the Snakes opt for Corbin Burnes. First pitch is set for 4:10 p.m. ET from Chase Field in Phoenix, AZ.

Maybe I'm crazy for playing the NRFI in this National League clash featuring a couple of scorching-hot offenses. However, if anyone can cool off the Nationals, it's Burnes. The right-hander is 3-2 this season, bringing in a 2.72 ERA (19th) and a 1.17 WHIP (37th). Washington's current lineup is just 13-for-61 (.213) against him, including CJ Abrams (1-for-7), James Wood (0-for-2) and Nathaniel Lowe (2-for-9).

The Diamondbacks have a lethal offense, but they have not been very successful against Parker (4.65 ERA) in the past. Their current roster is slashing just .143/.286/.171 against the southpaw over 35 at-bats. I'll take an even-money flier on this game to be scoreless after the first inning.

Bet: NRFI (+100)

Minnesota Twins (+114) at Seattle Mariners (-135) | O/U 8.0 (-102/-118

Starting Pitchers: Chris Paddack vs. Luis Castillo

I'll wrap up my NRFI card in the Pacific Northwest, where we have a rubber match between the Twins (31-26) and the Mariners (31-26). Chris Paddack will toe the rubber for Minnesota, while Seattle counters with Luis Castillo. This American League Showdown gets underway at 4:10 p.m. ET from T-Mobile Park in Seattle, WA.

Castillo continues to be a serviceable option for the M's. The veteran right-hander brings in a 3.32 ERA (36th) and a 1.30 WHIP (57th). In his last three starts (19 innings), he's logged a 1.89 ERA. Additionally, the Twins are just 17-for-78 (.218) against Castillo, which includes their big guns of Byron Buxton (0-for-2), Carlos Correa (2-for-9) and Trevor Larnach (2-for-12).

The Mariners will take on Paddack, who has surprisingly been solid in 2025. He enters with a 3.92 ERA (59th) and a 1.20 WHIP (41st). The right-hander is tasked with slowing down a Seattle offense that's just 22nd in wOBA (.296) and 21st in ISO (.118) over the last seven days. Neither of these offenses is very potent at the moment, so I think it's worth a shot on the NRFI in this one.

Bet: NRFI (-125)
