MLB No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Odds & Picks: Thursday (10/9)

Welcome back to another day of sports betting as the MLB playoffs continue with two elimination games today. NRFI stands for No Runs First Inning. It's a popular betting market where gamblers wager on whether the first inning of an MLB game will end with zero runs scored by either team. Pretty simple.

NRFI bets are the best because they're quick - sometimes you'll know the outcome within minutes. NRFI bets can provide an edge over other markets if you’ve done your research. I'm here to help provide that edge. As always, shop around for the best odds and be on the lookout for lineup announcements, which can significantly impact the outcome.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

Starting Pitchers: Cristopher Sanchez vs. Tyler Glasnow

After Philadelphia stayed alive last night, the Phillies are back at it again, trying to stave off elimination once more in Los Angeles. I also want to mention that the starting pitchers are not official, but as of now, it's looking like it will be Cristopher Sanchez versus Tyler Glasnow. As a reminder, shop around for the best odds because only one sportsbook even has NRFI vs. YRFI odds available, so I'm sure the odds will fluctuate before game time.

Glasnow throws his fastball over 55% of the time and 62% of the time it’s his first pitch. With Kyle Schwarber finally finding his power last night and Bryce Harper and Trea Turner coming to play, I'm worried about them being able to tee off against Glasnow early. Schwarber has a .466 batting average when swinging on the first pitch of the at-bat and a .333 average on a 0-1 count. I imagine the Phillies will be aggressive early and often, given Glasnow's tendencies.

On the other side, there's still the onslaught of Dodgers hitters coming to the plate with Shohei Ohtani due and Teoscar Hernandez having Sanchez's number, going 5-for-12 against him lifetime with two doubles and two home runs. Honestly, at this point, I'd be surprised if there weren't some early runs, so I will absolutely be taking the YRFI side here given the odds.

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Chicago Cubs

Starting Pitchers: Freddy Peralta vs. Matthew Boyd

This is another game without official starters announced, but it's looking like it will be Freddy Peralta against Matthew Boyd, as the Cubs try to force a Game 5. This series has had some wild first innings, and I don't expect it to stop now. The Brewers’ offense has been awesome, scoring a total of 10 first-inning runs in the series' first three games, with at least one in every game.

Yesterday was a bit cheap with some poor Chicago fielding, but in Game 1, they absolutely teed off against Boyd, and there's no reason to believe they won't tonight as well. William Contreras is 4-for-9 all-time against the Cubs pitcher, while Brice Turang is 2-for-7. Boyd allowed nine runs in 10.1 innings in the regular season against these Brewers. Considering the southpaw’s 4.06 first-inning ERA, I'm not confident in him keeping the Brew Crew at bay.

Peralta was solid in Game 1, but he still allowed two home runs with three walks in 5.2 innings. He is significantly worse on the road this year - a 3.71 road ERA compared to a 1.77 at home - and Michael Busch has homered off him twice in his career, while Kyle Tucker is 5-for-11 lifetime against the Milwaukee starter. I am once again on the YRFI side for this game and am expecting a plethora of runs early.
