Tuesday’s Best MLB No Runs First Innings (NRFI) Picks
(Odds courtesy of Caesars Sportsbook)
Milwaukee Brewers (-105) at Cincinnati Reds (-115) | O/U 8.0 (-110/-110)
Starting Pitchers: Freddy Peralta vs. Hunter Greene
Hunter Greene and Freddy Peralta are cooking with gas this season. According to FanGraphs, Greene has had the following stats in 10 starts spanning 54.2 innings.
- 2.63 ERA
- 2.75 xERA
- 3.24 xFIP
- 2.91 SIERA
- 0.91 WHIP
- 5.1 BB%
- 30.8 K%
- 15.3 SwStr%
- 29.9 CSW%
- 126 stuff+
- 99 location+
- 121 pitching+
Greene’s elite ERA and WHIP are supported by equally fantastic underlying metrics and pitch-modeling data.
Peralta has a 2.77 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in a dozen starts this year. Sadly, his underlying data isn’t as impressive as Greene’s. Nevertheless, the righty’s 3.57 xERA, 101 stuff+, 100 location+ and 102 pitching+ are rock-solid.
Most important for the NRFI wager, Greene and Peralta are lights out early in games. Greene has a 1.99 ERA and 3.25 xFIP in his first time through the order in 82 career starts. Peralta’s first two seasons depressed his numbers in his first time through the order as a starter. However, Peralta had a 3.42 ERA in his first time through the order as a starter last year and 2.03 this season.
Their dominance starts in the first inning. Greene has twirled a scoreless first inning in nine of 10 starts this season. Peralta has spun a scoreless first inning in 10 of his 12 starts in 2025. Finally, while the -135 NRFI line at Caesars Sportsbook is chalky, it’s a relative value compared to -150 at DraftKings Sportsbook.
Pick: NRFI (-135)
Texas Rangers (+118) at Tampa Bay Rays (-140) | O/U 8.0 (-110/-110)
Starting Pitchers: Tyler Mahle vs. Drew Rasmussen
The Athletics and Rays are playing in temporary minor-league homes. While Sutter Health Park is a launching pad for the A’s, George M Steinbrenner Field is a neutral scoring environment. Per Baseball Savant’s 2025 park factors, Tampa Bay’s temporary home has a park factor of 100 for runs, 99 for OBP and 101 for hits.
The venue shouldn’t be too much for Drew Rasmussen and Tyler Mahle to navigate. Both are pitching well this season. Rasmussen has a 2.33 ERA, 3.38 xERA, 3.54 xFIP and 3.63 SIERA in 11 starts in 2025, and Mahle has a 1.64 ERA, 3.81 xERA, 4.24 xFIP and 4.54 SIERA.
They’re also whizzes early in games. In 61 career starts, Rasmussen has had a 2.16 ERA and 3.09 xFIP in his first time through the order. Meanwhile, Mahle has had a 2.79 ERA and 3.82 xFIP in his first time through the order in 137 career starts. Finally, Rasmussen has thrown a scoreless first inning in 9-of-11 starts, and Mahle has done so in 10-of-12.
Pick: NRFI (-125)
