Friday's Best MLB No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Picks

This Season: 7-2 | Last Week: 3-0

Miami Marlins @ Philadelphia Phillies

Starting Pitchers: Sandy Alcantara vs. Zack Wheeler

We have a great NRFI matchup between the Marlins and Phillies. Neither team has scored a first-inning run in more than 50% of games this season. Sandy Alcantara, who has an NRFI record of 2-1 this season, will be on the mound for the Marlins. For the Phillies, it’s Zack Wheeler and his 3-1 NRFI record.

Both teams scored in the first inning in their previous game, but I expect a quick six-up and six-down inning with these pitchers on the mound.

Los Angeles Dodgers @ Texas Rangers

Starting Pitchers: Yoshinobu Yamamoto vs. Jacob deGrom

Back to the well again with a Dodgers NRFI with Yoshinobu Yamamoto pitching. He has a 3-1 NRFI record this season. His counterpart, Jacob deGrom, sports a 1-2 NRFI record. The Dodgers have struggled to put up runs over the last five games, scoring in only two games. The Rangers have scored in three of their last five games, but Yamamoto has been stellar in first innings.

New York Yankees @ Tampa Bay Rays

Starting Pitchers: Carlos Rodon vs. Drew Rasmussen

We have our first Yes Runs First Inning (YRFI) play of the season, and this one looks too good to pass up. The Yankees and Rays have both scored a first-inning run in 58% of their games, including yesterday's game. Drew Rasmussen has only allowed a run in one of his three starts, but that did come in his most recent start. Carlos Rodon has allowed a run in three of his four starts.
