MLB No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Prop Odds, Picks & Predictions: Saturday (8/5)

Here are our favorite No Runs First Inning (NRFI) bets for Saturday’s slate.

Saturday’s Best No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Bets

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Detroit Tigers

Aaron Civale vs. Tarik Skubal

Aaron Civale makes his Rays debut after being traded from the Guardians right before the deadline.

Civale had a 2.34 ERA with Cleveland while only allowing five earned runs over his last five games. He has only allowed one HR in seven starts and has gone at least five innings in eight straight starts.

Among current Detroit players, only Javier Baez has more than two hits again Civale’s, and as a team, they are hitting a measly .213 against the Rays’ new starter/

Tarik Skubal is just making his 6th start today, and it’s been a roller coaster ride. He hasn’t allowed a run in three of his five starts this season, shutting out the Giants, Blue Jays, and A’s. In the other two starts, he has gotten smacked around. In both of those starts, he’s allowed at least four earned runs, seven runs to the Royals, and four to the Marlins in his last outing.

Skubal’s 4.57 ERA only tells part of the story. His advanced numbers are much better, hinting some positive regression may be coming the lefty’s way. His xERA of 2.22 and xFIP of 2.61 are the lowest among today’s starters.

Bet: NRFI -120

Atlanta Braves vs. Chicago Cubs

Bryce Elder vs. Javier Assad

It looks as if the Cubs are going with a bullpen game. They are starting RHP Javier Assad for just the second time this season.

Assad started one game earlier this season against the Dodgers, giving up two runs on three hits over three innings. While he didn’t give up a run in the first inning, he allowed two HRs and a handful of hits. It’s also worth noting that the Dodgers were missing one of the best leadoff hitters in the game, Mookie Betts.

No MLB team has more hits or HRs against righties this season than the Atlanta Braves.

If you want to dig even further, the Braves have scored the most first-inning runs against RHP in the MLB with 100 runs.  The next closest team is the Rays, with 66 runs.

Bet: YRFI -150
