Sunday’s Best MLB Bets
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Los Angeles Dodgers at Texas Rangers
We’ve got an exciting pitching matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Texas Rangers.
The Dodgers will send out Tyler Glasnow. The right-handed ace has struggled against lefties this season. However, he’s also struck out 30.4% of batters, while holding all 56 batters faced to a .130 ISO and wOBA of .278. That said, Glasnow has walked 16.1% of batters, but that’s very unlike him. Last year, he walked only 6.1% of 505 batters. Look for those walk numbers to come back to life eventually.
Glasnow is in line to face a Rangers lineup that will likely only have four lefties. Those four lefties combined have hit a .104 ISO and woBA of .252 against righties this season. Ultimately, Corey Seager has been the only super consistent lefty against righties in the Texas lineup this season. Glasnow should perform well against this Rangers lineup. After all, this projected lineup has walked only 4.7% of the time against righties.
On the other hand, Tyler Mahle will get the ball for the Rangers. He’s struck out 28% of batters and has allowed a .045 ISO and wOBA of .193 to 75 batters this season. Like Glasnow, his walks are a bit high. He’s also allowing a high number of fly balls and not getting many grounders. Still, he’s added more than 13% of swinging strikes and has given up just a 6.7% barrel percentage.
It looks like Shohei Ohtani will be back in the lineup for the Dodgers tonight. Still, Mahle should pitch a good enough game to keep the total Under.
Pick: Under 9 Runs (-122)
San Francisco Giants at Los Angeles Angels
Justin Verlander will take the hill for the San Francisco Giants tonight. The veteran righty hasn’t had a great start to his season. He’s allowed a .167 ISO and wOBa of .372 with only 19.3% of strikeouts and 10.2% of walks this year.
Meanwhile, he’ll battle an Angels lineup that has hit a .247 ISO and wOBA of .356 against righties this season. The Angels have all but one player hitting a .200 ISO or better against righties in the projected lineup. Additionally, Verlander is getting tattooed by righties, allowing a .270 ISO and woBA of .412. Taylor Ward, Mike Trout, Jorge Soler, Logan O’Hoppe, Zach Neto, Kyren Paris, and Jo Adell are all right-handed sluggers who should be in the lineup today.
Verlander will duel Yusei Kikuchi of the Angels. The newly acquired lefty for Los Angeles has limited his first 96 batters to a .305 wOBA. He’s also struck out close to 23% of batters and has allowed only 18.8% of line drives.
Today, he’ll go up against a Giants lineup that has hit a .271 wOBA against lefties this season. The projected lineup also has five batters who have struck out at least 24% of the time against lefties this season. In addition, San Francisco’s projected lineup has walked only 5.5% of the time against lefties this year.
I’m on the Angels.
Pick: Angels Moneyline (-108)
