Sunday’s Best MLB Bets
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Los Angeles Dodgers
The Pittsburgh Pirates will ride with Bailey Falter today. The left-hander has struck out only 19.2% of batters and has allowed a .204 ISO and wOBA of .331 to his first 104 batters. Falter has kept walks down, but he’s also earned fewer than 40% of ground balls this season. In addition, he’s allowed close to 29% of fly balls to 104 batters this year.
Falter has also allowed 59.2% of hard contact and a barrel percentage of 9.2, while earning just 9.2% of swinging strikes. It hasn’t been the best start to the season for Falter.
On the other hand, he’ll take on a Dodgers lineup that has hit a a .224 ISO and wOBA of .320 this season. The Dodgers crushed lefties last season and will be just as good this year.
Conversely, the Dodgers will run it back with Tyler Glasnow. Glasnow is an ace pitcher who has struggled against lefties. He’s allowed a .182 ISO and wOBA of .365 to his first 38 lefties. In addition, he’s also given up 13.9% of walks to his first 72 batters this season. Those walks will likely go down as the season continues. Glasnow only walked 6.1% of batters last season.
Meanwhile, he’ll take on a Pirates lineup that has hit a .131 ISO and wOBA of .322. The Pirates lack the power that the Dodgers have. That’ll be the difference in this game.
Take the Dodgers at -1.5.
Pick: Dodgers -1.5 (-162)
Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees (Game 2)
Usually, I don’t look at doubleheader games, but this one caught my eye.
The Toronto Blue Jays will send out Chris Bassitt, who has looked phenomenal this season. The veteran right-hander has struck out 28.6% of batters and has allowed a .055 ISO and wOBA of .268 against his first 119 batters faced this season.
While the Yankees have a few batters who have hit for solid power against righties, the lineup could be a little bit different with the doubleheader. Some guys could get a rest in the second game. In the projected lineup, there are already seven batters who have struck out at least 19.4% of the time against righties this season.
On the other hand, Clarke Schmidt will get another start for the Yankees. The righty has allowed a .250 ISO and wOBA of .381, but most of the damage has come from lefties.
Lucky for Schmidt, the Blue Jays’ lefties in the projected lineup have hit a .102 ISO and wOBA of .268 against right-handed pitching this season. All in all, the Toronto projected lineup has hit a .096 ISO and wOBA of .288 against righties. I’ll trust Schmidt to put together a solid performance to keep this game under the total.
Let’s take the Under 9 at -110.
Pick: Under 9.0 Runs (-110)
