Sunday’s Best MLB Bets
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
New York Yankees vs. Colorado Rockies
The Colorado Rockies will send out Antonio Senzatela for today’s game against the New York Yankees. Senzatela has only struck out 10.5% of batters and has allowed a .190 ISO and a wOBA of .426 to his first 239 batters this season.
Ultimately, he’s been worse against righties. In the last 30 days, Senzatela has allowed a .288 ISO and wOBA of .403 with only 14.9% of strikeouts against righties. That should mean some good results for Aaron Judge, Paul Goldschmidt, Anthony Volpe and DJ LeMahieu. The Yankees’ projected starting lineup has hit a .228 ISO and wOBA of .370 with 11.6% of walks against righties over the last month. This lineup is stacked with consistent hitting.
Meanwhile, the Rockies’ lineup has added a .199 ISO and wOBA of .348 against righties over the last month. Yet, they’ve struck out more and walked less. In addition, they’ll battle Will Warren, who has struck out nearly 34% of batters over the last month. He’s also limited teams to a .114 ISO and wOBA of .299 over the last month. Warren has given up just 18.2% of fly balls over the last 30 days. That should help, especially in Coors Field.
Let’s take the Yankees on the run line.
Pick: Yankees -1.5 (-196)
Philadelphia Phillies vs. Athletics
There’s nothing wrong with fading the worst teams in baseball.
The Athletics are set to send Gunnar Hoglund to the mound today. He’s a right-handed pitcher who has allowed a .250 ISO and wOBA of .377 against his first 90 batters this season. He’s struggled more against righties, but he’s allowed a super-high barrel rate to both sides of the plate this year.
Meanwhile, the Phillies will have four righties in the lineup. Those four righties have struck out just 17.2% of the time and have hit a .360 wOBA against righties in the last 30 days. Hoglund has given up a .308 ISO and wOBA of .450 to his first 44 righties, while also allowing a 19.4% barrel rate. He’s also struck out just 18.2% of righties and has allowed 11.4% of walks.
On the other hand, Jesus Luzardo will pitch for the Phillies. He’s a left-handed thrower who has struck out 27.6% of batters this season. Luzardo has also limited 243 batters to a .077 ISO and wOBA of .269. He’s been terrific for the Phillies this year.
Today, he’ll take on an Athletics lineup that has no power against lefties. The projected lineup has hit a .133 ISO with only 4.5% of walks. Luzardo has to get by Brent Rooker and Luis Urias, and he’ll be fine.
Consider the Phillies on the run line.
Pick: Phillies -1.5 (-110)
