Detroit Tigers vs. Los Angeles Angels

The Los Angeles Angels will throw Tyler Anderson for today’s matchup against the Detroit Tigers. He’s a lefty who has already outperformed his analytics this season. However, I don’t think he’ll stop outperforming, at least for another week.

Anderson is facing a Tigers lineup that has a .123 ISO against lefties over the last month. While Anderson doesn’t earn many strikeouts, the Tigers don’t strike out often. There’s just a lack of power in Detroit’s lineup right now against lefties. That’ll help Anderson get through today’s game.

On the other hand, Casey Mize has probably underperformed regarding his analytical numbers. He’s held teams to a .122 ISO and has earned 47.4% of ground balls, with only 16.7% of fly balls allowed over the last 30 days.

Additionally, Mize has allowed a .477 batting average on balls in play (BABIP) to his last 65 lefties over the previous 30 days but a .303 BABIP to lefties this season. That number should start to trickle down against lefties, especially against the Angels.

Mize is set to face an Angels lineup that has struck out 28.5% of the time against righties in the last month. The projected lineup has also earned just 6.8% of walks and has a .300 wOBA in the previous 30 days against righties.

I’ll side with the under in tonight’s game.

Pick: Under 8.5 Runs (+100)

Oakland Athletics vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

It’s all catching up to the Oakland Athletics. The projected lineup has a .110 ISO and wOBA of .304 with 26.9% of strikeouts against righties over the last 30 days.

The only reliable hitters are JJ Bleday, Tyler Soderstrom and Zach Gelof. However, Soderstrom and Gelof have struck out at a super-high rate against righties.

Meanwhile, they’ll take on Brandon Pfaadt of the Diamondbacks, who has allowed a .304 wOBA throughout the season. That’s mainly due to his low walks, but he’s also struck out 26.6% of right-handed batters throughout the season.

Pfaadt will likely face more righties than lefties in tonight’s Oakland lineup. He’ll throw at least a quality start as long as he throws strikes.

Conversely, Luis Medina will get the ball for the Athletics. He’s a righty who has allowed a .173 ISO and wOBA of .370 to his last 61 righties. He’ll probably only face two righties in the Arizona lineup. That said, Christian Walker and Eugenio Suarez would be the two. They’ve combined for a .195 ISO and wOBA of .349 against righties over the last 30 days.

Overall, the Diamondbacks have way more threats in the lineup and have the better-performing pitcher. We’ll take our chances with Arizona on the run line.

Pick: Diamondbacks -1.5 (+105)
