MLB Odds, Picks & Predictions: Sunday (7/14)

There’s a full 15-game slate on the MLB schedule tonight.

Enjoy it while you can. Due to the All-Star break, the MLB regular-season slate won’t return until Friday.

That said, I’ve added two of my favorite bets on the odds board tonight. Tail along below!

Sunday’s Best MLB Picks

Here are our top MLB picks for Sunday’s slate of baseball action.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Chicago White Sox

The Pittsburgh Pirates will give Mitch Keller the ball for tonight’s matchup against the White Sox. Keller has been very good against right-handed batters over the last 30 days. He’s held them to a .127 ISO and wOBA of .302 with more than 51% of ground balls. Lucky for him, he’ll face six righties in the Chicago lineup today.

That White Sox projected lineup has also hit just a .118 ISO and wOBA of .275 with more than 23% of strikeouts and just 6.3% of walks. Only Andrew Benintendi and Luis Robert are above average against righties. The other seven have been pretty quiet in multiple areas.

Meanwhile, the White Sox will run it back with Jared Shuster. The former Braves lefty has allowed a .171 ISO and wOBA of .333 against his last 44 batters. He’s also earned just 14.3% of strikeouts throughout the season, including more than 26% of line drives allowed.

Additionally, Shuster has given up 14% of walks to righties this season.

Pittsburgh doesn’t have the best lineup against lefties. However, five batters have struck out 20% or lower against lefties, and four have an ISO of at least .182. Pittsburgh matches up better all-around. Take the Pirates to win by at least two.

Pick: Pirates -1.5 (-134)

Atlanta Braves vs. San Diego Padres

The Atlanta Braves will pitch Chris Sale tonight. The left-handed ace has earned nearly 38% of strikeouts over the last 30 days. He’s also held his previous 117 batters to a .259 wOBA, thanks to a low walk rate of under 10% and 48.3% of ground balls.

Sale will take on a Padres lineup that has only hit a .146 ISO over the last 30 days. The lineup has also failed to work walks at a high rate. The Padres typically put the ball in play at a high rate, but it’s more unlikely they do that with Sale on the mound.

On the flip side, the Braves haven’t been much better. Atlanta has hit a .291 wOBA against righties over the last month, including 5.3% of walks. The projected Atlanta lineup has also struck out 24.5% of the time against righties over the last 30 days.

They’ll take on Randy Vasquez of the Padres, who has kept walks down. He’s also earned 25.6% of strikeouts against righties over the last 30 days. Vasquez is nothing special, but he should be able to get through a Braves lineup with more righties than lefties.

I’ll take the Under in this one.

Pick: Under 7.5 (-114)
