Boston Red Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles
The Boston Red Sox will throw Kutter Crawford today. He’s a righty who has allowed a wOBA of .431 against his last 108 batters. Those 108 batters have hit 51.8% of hard contact and have struck out only 17.6% of the time.
In addition, Crawford has allowed 38.6% of fly balls, with only 28.9% of ground balls induced over the last month. The only thing he’s been good for has been limiting walks.
He’ll take on an Orioles lineup with a ton of power against righties. Colton Cowser, Anthony Santander, Gunnar Henderson, Jackson Holliday, and Cedric Mullins are the red-hot batters against righties right now. That’s the majority of the lineup.
Meanwhile, Albert Suarez will take the mound for the Orioles. He’s a righty starter who has watched his last 43 lefties hit a .263 ISO and wOBA of .420. Suarez has only struck out 18.6% of lefties and has allowed 50% of hard contact with nearly 27% of line drives.
Boston’s lineup should have six lefties in the lineup today. Those six lefties have combined to hit a .216 ISO and wOBa of .367. Therefore, the over looks juicy for today’s AL East matchup.
Pick: Over 9 (-110)
San Francisco Giants vs. Oakland Athletics
We’ll get a lefty vs. lefty matchup between the Giants and Athletics in today’s game. We’ll start with Oakland’s JP Sears. Sears has held his last 127 batters to a .144 ISO and wOBA of .283. He’s also induced nearly 44% of ground balls over the previous month and has limited fly balls to 24.5%.
Beyond that, Sears has also held batters to 3.9% of walks over the last month and has kept righties to a .113 ISO and wOBA of .262. As a lefty, he’ll take on a Giants lineup that should have seven righties in it. Those seven righties have struck out 27.1% of the time and have only hit a .311 wOBA against righties over the last month. Sears should add a solid game on the mound.
He’ll have to be on his A-Game, especially going up against Blake Snell of the Giants. Snell has recorded a no-hitter this season and has held his last 120 batters to a .083 ISO and wOBA of .182. Even crazier, he’s struck out 40.8% of batters in the previous 30 days and has added 18.3% of swinging strikes while allowing just 31.7% of hard contact.
Snell will face an Athletics lineup with only three batters with an ISO of better than .125 against lefties. We’ll take our chances with the Under in today’s game.
Pick: Under 7.5 (-120)
