(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Philadelphia Phillies vs. Arizona Diamondbacks
The Arizona Diamondbacks will roll out Eduardo Rodriguez today. The left-hander has held his last 107 batters to a .104 ISO and wOBA of .300. He’s had some poor moments this year. But lately, he’s been on point. Rodriguez has allowed just 15% of fly balls over the last 30 days and has induced 45% of ground balls. He’s also limited his walks to 9.3% over that time period.
Meanwhile, the Phillies have five batters in the projected lineup with some power against lefties. Yet, the entire lineup has struck out nearly 29% of the time against lefties over the last 30 days. Rodriguez isn’t a big strikeout thrower, but there’s a good chance he adds more strikeouts against the Phillies today.
On the other hand, Ranger Suarez is expected to pitch for the Phillies. He’s another quality left-hander who has allowed just a .111 ISO and wOBA of .287 over the last 30 days. He’s been much more consistent throughout the season. Suarez has also added nearly 29% of strikeouts in the previous 30 days.
Like the Phillies, the Diamondbacks certainly have some power against lefties. But four players have struck out 26.9% of the time or more against lefties over the last 30 days.
Suarez and Rodriguez have both looked very good over the last month. Let’s ride those two lefties and back the under.
Pick: Under 9.0 Runs (-115)
Seattle Mariners vs. Houston Astros
The Seattle Mariners are sending Logan Gilbert to the mound tonight. Gilbert is a right-handed pitcher who has struck out 33.6% of his last 116 batters. Gilbert has also limited those same batters to a .132 ISO and a wOBA of .265.
He’s also limited line drives to 23.2% and has added 32.5% of whiffs over the last month. In addition, Gilbert has delivered nearly 17% of swinging strikes and has allowed a .277 batting average on balls in play (BABIP), which isn’t so bad either.
Conversely, it’ll be Jason Alexander for the Astros. He’s allowed a .212 ISO and wOBA of .330 to his last 91 batters. The righty has given up 30% of line drives to his previous 41 lefties and has only added 19.5% of strikeouts against lefties. He’s pitching to contact against lefties and will face a Mariners lineup with more lefties than righties. The five lefties in the lineup have hit a .215 ISO and wOBA of .365 with only 16.8% of strikeouts against righties over the last month.
Seattle should be able to put some hard contact in play throughout this game. Let’s back the Mariners on the Moneyline.
Pick: Mariners Moneyline (-138)
