MLB Player Prop Bet Odds, Picks & Predictions: Saturday (7/8)

With just two days remaining until the All-Star Break, this time of year can be the most difficult to wager on in Major League Baseball, as some players and teams may have their sights on the upcoming days of rest rather than the games at hand. However, we have identified a solid trio of player prop wagers to build momentum heading into the break.

Saturday’s Best MLB Player Props

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Andres Gimenez Over 1.5 total bases vs. Royals (+135

Kansas City Royals righty Brady Singer is amid his best stretch of the season, with one earned run allowed over his previous 13 innings. However, Singer still has an individual ERA of 5.74 or worse in five of the first six innings of games. And he has allowed a .359/.415/.554 slash line in 78 combined at-bats to current Guardians hitters, so we expect more offensive success from Cleveland today.

We are targeting left-handed hitters against Singer, as they have a much easier time elevating the ball off him. Singer has a 0.84 GO/AO ratio against lefties versus a 2.07 ratio against righties. We are backing arguably the Cleveland Guardians’ hottest hitter, as second baseman Andres Gimenez is second on the team among position players with a 2.3 WAR and has recorded a hit in six of seven games in July, in which he is slashing .333/.467/.667. That surge also pushed him to the 100 wRC+ mark, and entering yesterday, he hit as many home runs in the last five games as he did in the previous 41.

Gimenez has cashed the Over on this total bases prop in five of his previous 12 games, and we look for him to continue the successes of a Guardians offense that has scored 6+ runs in four of their last seven games.

Ranger Suarez Under 2.5 earned runs allowed vs. Marlins (-135)

The Philadelphia Phillies, winners of 13 consecutive road games, are in a coin-flip matchup against the Miami Marlins, largely because Miami has won Braxton Garrett’s last seven starts and nine of his previous 10. However, oddsmakers are seemingly overlooking Miami’s lack of success against left-handed starting pitchers, as it is “just” .500 (10-10) against left-handed starting pitchers compared to 41-29 against righties.

Ranger Suarez has the lowest ERA (2.09) and second-best FIP (3.26), HR/9 rate (0.70), and ground-ball percentage (49%) of any Phillies starter since June 1st. He has pitched to a 1.97 ERA in five road starts and should continue to succeed at LoanDepot Park, as Ballpark Pal ranks it third-worst among today’s home venues regarding home run and overall run production.

Blake Snell to record a win vs. Mets (+120)

It is difficult to fade the New York Mets, as they won a season-high sixth straight game yesterday. However, they have struggled against southpaws all season, with a 10-19 record against left-handed starting pitchers versus a 32-27 record against righties. And now they face the National League Pitcher of the Month for June, as Blake Snell won three of his five starts and pitched to a microscopic 0.87 ERA and .124 OBA.

Snell is seemingly untouchable at this point, working around seven hits and four walks to throw five scoreless innings against the Los Angeles Angels in his last start.

New York’s offense is given more credit than it deserves, as the Mets enter this matchup averaging 5.7 runs per game in their last nine road games (51 in 9). However, the Mets rank 17th in wRC+ and 20th in OPS against southpaws. But the most troubling metric for Mets backers is their 28th-ranked BABIP against left-handed pitching (.271), especially when facing a pitcher that entered Friday ranked third in the NL in strikeouts.

The Padres have won each of Snell’s last three home starts, while the Mets have won just two of their last seven road games against left-handed starters. We are getting optimal value with this wager and expect Snell to continue a hot June and lead his team to victory.
