(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Jose Suarez Over 4.5 Ks (-165)
The Los Angeles Angels will send out Jose Suarez for tonight’s contest against the Chicago White Sox. Suarez is a left-handed pitcher who has averaged 30.4% of strikeouts over the last month. He’s also held his last 46 batters to a .000 ISO and wOBA of .200 with more than 14% of swinging strikes.
Meanwhile, he’ll face a White Sox lineup with six batters who have struck out at least 20% of the time against lefties. The lineup has also hit a .094 ISO and wOBA of .269 over the last 30 days against lefties.
So, chances are Suarez can last at least five innings and earn five strikeouts when pitching in those five innings.
Jordan Walker Over 1.5 Total Bases (-135)
In the last 30 days, Cardinals right-handed Jordan Walker has slugged a .438 ISO and wOBA of .479 against his last 18 lefties. He’s also struck out only 16.7% of the time and has hit nearly 31% of fly balls with 46.2% of hard contact against lefties in the last 30 days.
He’ll go up against Austin Gomber of the Rockies in Colorado tonight. Playing in Coors Field should help boost Walker’s numbers, especially when facing Gomber, who has allowed a .202 ISO and wOBA of .352 to righties this season. Over the last month, Gomber has given up more than 48% of hard contact to righties and has added only 12.3% of strikeouts.
Let’s take a chance with Walker to add at least two total bases tonight.
Brady Basso Over 4.5 Ks (-120)
The Athletics will give Brady Basso another start tonight. He’s a left-handed pitcher who has struck out 20.8% of batters against his first 77 batters this season.
Basso has held those 77 batters to a .056 ISO and wOBA of .253. He’s also added 12.8% of swinging strikes and has earned 26.6% of whiffs.
In addition, Basso has held opponents to 19.3% of line drives and has gained 45.6% of ground balls this season.
He’ll be in line to face a Rangers lineup that has hit a .081 ISO and wOBA of .222 with 35.3% of strikeouts against lefties over the last 30 days. The projected lineup has just two batters with a wOBA above .289 and only two with an ISO of more than .143.
Basso could have a quality start. He’ll likely finish with at least five strikeouts if he adds a quality start. After all, the Rangers have six batters in the projected lineup that have struck out at least 30% of the time against lefties over the last 30 days.
