MLB Player Props & Bets: Wednesday (5/21)

There’s nothing better than a Wednesday MLB slate. Typically, there’s a full slate of games, but they’re all scattered throughout the day. That said, I’ve added three MLB player props you’ll want to consider for the later portion of the slate.

Tail along below.

Wednesday’s Best MLB Player Prop Bets

Daulton Varsho Over 1.5 Total Bases (+130)

Daulton Varsho has smacked a .500 ISO and wOBA of .440 against his last 42 righties. The left-hander has been so good that he’s currently batting third in the order against right-handed pitching.

Varsho has hit only 22.2% of ground balls and 48.1% of fly balls in the last 30 days against righties. He’s also launched 81.5% of hard contact with a 25.9% barrel percentage against righties over the last month.

The Blue Jays slugger takes on Randy Vasquez of the Padres tonight. Vasquez is a right-handed pitcher who has allowed a .273 ISO and wOBA of .430 to his last 54 lefties faced. Those 54 lefties have struck out only 11.1% of the time and have hit 34.2% of fly balls with 55.3% of hard contact.

Varsho has been destroying right-handed pitching, and Vasquez has been getting hit hard against lefties. This is a matchup we’ll want to take advantage of.

Carson Palmquist Under 3.5 Strikeouts (-116)

The Rockies will send out left-hander Carson Palmquist for tonight’s game. He’s struck out none of his first 19 batters faced and has allowed a .188 ISO and wOBA of .377 this season.

Meanwhile, the Phillies’ projected lineup has struck out only 19.1% of the time over the last 30 days against lefties. It also has six batters who have struck out no more than 19% against lefties over the previous 30 days.

Palmquist only has three targets in the Phillies’ projected lineup. That likely won’t get the job done, especially since he added fewer than 4% of swinging strikes against his first 19 batters faced this season.

Dustin May Under 4.5 Strikeouts (-142)

It’ll be Dustin May on the mound for the Dodgers tonight. May has struck out only 21.6% of his first 190 batters this season. Over the last 30 days, it’s been the same result. He’s struck out 21.6% of batters in the previous month for the Dodgers. He’s consistent, but not in a good way.

Over the last 30 days, May has given up a .207 ISO and wOBA of .385 to his previous 125 batters.

Meanwhile, he’ll take on an Arizona lineup that has hit a .229 ISO and wOBa of .371 with only 17.8% of strikeouts against right-handed pitching over the last 30 days. Arizona’s lineup has just two batters who have struck out more than 22.1% of the time against righties. They’ve also been super patient, as they’ve walked more than 9% of the time against righties over the last 30 days.

May hasn’t pitched well enough analytically to add at least five strikeouts against this Diamondbacks lineup. Let’s take the under.
