MLB Same Game Parlay Odds & Picks: Friday (8/9)

Friday offers us a 16-game slate of MLB action. However, the pitching matchups for a few of the games are TBD. There are also a couple of games that sportsbooks have not listed yet for whatever reason. That limits our options for Same-Game Parlay (SGP) bets to an extent. But fear not, for I have found a few I like for Friday. Here are three of my favorite SGPs for Friday's MLB action.

Friday's Best MLB Same Game Parlay Bets

Chicago Cubs @ Chicago White Sox

My first SGP for Friday is for the rivalry game between the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox. The Cubs swept two games from their crosstown rivals earlier this season. While that can certainly happen again given the state of the Southsiders, I am avoiding playing the Cubs straight up because the White Sox do have Garrett Crochet on the mound.

Having said that, their offense is still abysmal, so most of the legs of this SGP will center around the performance of Cubs starter Jameson Taillon.

Since the All-Star break, the White Sox have had over 600 plate appearances versus right-handed pitchers. They rank dead last in walk rate and wRC+ while posting the second-highest strikeout rate.

Taillon, meanwhile, has had a solid second season in Chicago for the Cubs. He enters Friday's start with a 3.25 ERA in 19 starts and has pitched very well to these thresholds of late.

Taillon has hit all three of these thresholds in five of his last 10 starts. That includes outings against the Mets, Orioles and Phillies. Each one of those teams has scored 200+ more runs than the White Sox this season. Friday's matchup is about as easy as it should get for the veteran right-hander.

The last leg for this SGP is for Miguel Amaya to fail to record a hit. The White Sox have begun to limit Crochet's workload, but I still expect him to face Amaya twice. Crochet has held righty hitters to a 19% hit rate this year, while Amaya has just seven knocks in 55 plate appearances against southpaws.

Amaya hits near the bottom of the lineup, and the Cubs have pinch-hit for him multiple times. In 12 starts since the All-Star break, Amaya has only had 37 plate appearances. I am betting against the Cubs catcher getting a hit on Friday in a tough matchup.

Cincinnati Reds @ Milwaukee Brewers

The Cincinnati Reds and Milwaukee Brewers enter this matchup in good offensive form following a series against teams from the National League East Division. A pair of dynamic young stars led the way for their respective teams in those series. I expect more of the same on Friday night.

Cincinnati scored 32 runs while taking three of four games from the Miami Marlins. Meanwhile, Milwaukee swept a three-game set from Atlanta, scoring 34 runs in the process.

For the first two legs of this SGP, I reduced the game total to 7.0 and grabbed the Reds' alternate Run Line at +2.5. Carson Spiers and Aaron Civale are the starting pitchers on Friday. Spiers has pitched to a 4.23 ERA and 4.26 FIP in seven starts, while Civale has disappointed with a 5.14 ERA and 4.92 FIP.

After a slow start to the month, Elly De La Cruz is swinging a hot bat. He recorded 11 hits in the four games against Miami. He is now slugging .579 on the road against right-handed pitchers for the season. Civale has allowed 121 hits in 112 innings pitched this year. I expect De La Cruz to get the better of Civale in this matchup.

Jackson Chourio has led Milwaukee's offensive attack since the All-Star break. He has hit safely in 14 out of 16 games since the break, with 12 of those being multi-hit efforts. We only need him to get one hit to finish off this SGP.  However, if you do not like one of the other legs, I don't mind adjusting this to 2+ total bases or even 2+ hits considering how well Chourio is hitting lately.

Atlanta Braves @ Colorado Rockies

Though the Atlanta Braves just got ambushed by the Brewers, I believe they are in for a bit of a reprieve when they travel to Colorado to take on the Rockies.

Colorado is ahead of only the Chicago White Sox in terms of both win-loss record and run differential. They are a little better at home, but I am still taking the Braves on the Moneyline as the first leg of this SGP.

I am also taking Atlanta's starter, Grant Holmes, to have at least four strikeouts. Holmes has struck out 12 out of 40 hitters (30% strikeout rate) over his first two starts of the season. Rockies hitters have struck out in 23.1% of their plate appearances since the All-Star break when facing a right-handed pitcher in Coors Field. This feels like a reasonable threshold for Holmes to hit.

Colorado has Tanner Hudson on the hill for this game. He was traded to the Rockies by Atlanta last summer, so the Braves are quite familiar with the right-hander. One thing they surely know is Hudson has extreme reverse splits in limited innings with the Rockies this year.

Hudson has served up a triple-slash line of .413/.438/.826 to right-handed hitters so far. Albeit a small sample size, this plays well into the final two legs of my SGP, as I am riding two of Atlanta's hottest hitters to keep up their recent form.

Austin Riley has registered two or more total bases in five of seven August contests. He has 10 total hits in those games, including six for extra bases. Orlando Arcia has had two or more bases in four of seven games this month and in seven of his last 11 overall. I like both hitters to record two or more total bases on Friday night.

If you do not have Fanatics Sportsbook available to you, you will have to adjust this by either taking Atlanta on the Run Line -1.5 or by bumping Holmes' strikeout total to 5+. If I had to choose between the two, I would prefer Atlanta on the Run Line. If you use the 30% FanDuel boost, this SGP would come in at +521 with the Run Line instead of the Moneyline.
