Detroit Tigers @ Cleveland Guardians

The Guardians are set to throw Logan Allen for tonight’s game against the Tigers. The left-hander has been absolutely dreadful to begin the season, allowing a .233 ISO and wOBA of .362 to his first 161 batters faced.

Allen has also struck out 19.3% of batters this year but has managed to strike out just 17.3% of righties. In addition, Allen’s given up a .235 ISO and wOBA to 127 righties this season while allowing nearly 30% of fly balls.

He’ll face a Tigers lineup that is very consistent against lefties. Since last season, Andy Ibanez has hit a .227 ISO and wOBA of .347 with only 21.2% of strikeouts against lefties. Meanwhile, Mark Canha has smashed a .230 ISO and wOBA of .384 with only 14% of strikeouts against righties since last season.

Finally, Wenceel Perez, a switch-hitter, batting right-handed, has hit a .286 ISO and wOBA of .449 against his last 15 lefties.

Stack up all the righties against Allen!

Chicago White Sox @ Tampa Bay Rays

The White Sox’s Michael Soroka will pitch tonight. Soroka has already allowed a .237 ISO and a wOBA of .379 on the season. He has struck out only 10.6% of batters while allowing 12.6% of walks. He’s been falling behind in counts religiously to begin the season. That could only help the Tampa Bay batters.

As a projected lineup, the Rays have struck out only 18.9% of the time against righties. Soroka essentially has three targets between Randy Arozarena, Josh Lowe and Ben Rortvedt. However, Arozarena and Lowe each have above-average wOBA and ISO numbers against righties since last season.

That said, Lowe has smashed a .211 ISO and wOBA of .368 against righties since 2023. The left-hander has also slugged 31.5% of fly balls with 24.5% of line drives in that span. Behind him would be Isaac Paredes. He’s a righty but has knocked a .264 ISO and wOBA of .378 against other righties since last season. Paredes has even limited strikeouts to 18.1%, hitting nearly 29% of fly balls with 50.8% of hard contact against righties.

You can practically stack up any of the Rays. Soroka has been horrible this season and wasn’t much better last year. Last season, Soroka allowed a .273 ISO and wOBA of .368 in 145 plate appearances. While his walks and strikeouts were lower, we could’ve seen Soroka’s struggles coming this season. Fade him tonight.
