MLB Same Game Parlays & Picks: Sunday (4/5)

Last Sunday, almost every MLB game was scheduled for 2:00 pm ET or earlier. This time, we’ve got games throughout the day, including six games from 4:00 pm ET or later. I’m eying a couple of MLB same game parlays (SGPs) for some of the later games. Let’s have a day!

Seattle Mariners vs. Los Angeles Angels

Leg #1: Luis Castillo Over 5.5 Strikeouts (-168)

Luis Castillo struck out 33.3 percent of his first 21 batters faced this season. Last season, he added just 21.4 percent of strikeouts, so that was a fun surprise from Castillo. That said, he’ll take on an Angels lineup that has struck out 26.1 percent of the time against righties since last season. Only Nolan Schanuel has struck out below 24 percent of the time against righties in that projected lineup. Castillo should be able to rack up the strikeouts against the Angels.

Leg #2: Ryan Johnson Over 4.5 Strikeouts (+140)

But don’t sleep on Ryan Johnson’s strikeout ability, either. He’s facing a Mariners team that has four players who have struck out at least 26.8 percent of the time since last season. Johnson had a rough start to the season, but showed off some potential in the spring. He’s a former second-round pick who pitched very well in the spring, too, to be put in this position. I’m expecting a better start for Johnson this time around.

Leg #3: Dominic Canzone Over .5 Hits (-210)

Still, Dominic Canzone should be able to get a hit off Johnson. Johnson has allowed a .286 ISO and wOBA of .489 to lefties in his previous start. Canzone is a lefty who has hit a .235 ISO and wOBA of .392 against righties since last season.

      Parlay Odds: +417

      Atlanta Braves vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

Leg #1: Brandon Pfaadt Under 4.5 Strikeouts (-154)

Brandon Pfaadt was tremendous in his first start of the season. However, he still notched only a 12.5 percent strikeout rate in six innings of work. Pfaadt struck out just 19.2 percent of batters last season and is trending to have another below 20 percent strikeout season this year. That said, he’ll take on a Braves projected lineup that has struck out only 19.7 percent of the time against righties over the last season. Only Austin Riley has struck out more than 25 percent against righties in that lineup.

Leg #2: Ketel Marte Over 1.5 Total Bases (-145)

On the other hand, Martin Perez will likely start for the Braves. He only struck out 17.5 percent of righties last season and allowed more than a 31 percent fly ball rate with a 53.8 percent hard contact rate. Ketel Marte has struggled this season, but he’s still added a .216 ISO and wOBA of .370 against lefties since last season. He’s also struck out just 13.7 percent of the time against lefties during that stretch.

Leg #3: Gabriel Moreno Over 1.5 Total Bases (+115)

Gabriel Moreno hasn’t shown off a ton of power against lefties, but he’s still struck out only 13.3 percent of the time against lefties since last season. Moreno sports a 53.1% hard contact rate and a 25 percent line drive rate against lefties. He’s got some potential today against Perez.
