MLB World Series Game 5 Same Game Parlay Odds, Picks & Predictions: Thursday (Phillies/Astros)

The Houston Astros used a no-hitter to defeat the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 4 of the World Series last night. The World Series is now tied up at two. We’re also guaranteed a Game 6 in Houston.

That win from the Astros gave Houston home-field advantage back as well.

The Phillies will be playing their final game at home tonight. The Phillies likely can’t afford to lose tonight’s game, with the next two games being played in Houston.

I’ve put together a couple of same-game parlays to consider for Game 5 of the MLB World Series.

MLB World Series Game 5 Same Game Parlay Odds, Picks & Predictions

Houston Astros vs. Philadelphia Phillies (The “Astros” Angle)

  • Leg 1: Justin Verlander Over 6.5 K’s (+116)
  • Leg 2: Jeremy Pena 2+ Total Bases (+100)
  • Leg 3: Alex Bregman 2+ Total Bases (+135)

The Astros decided to hold off on Justin Verlander in Game 4. It worked out exactly how they wanted. Christian Javier helped the Astros finish Game 4 with a no-hitter.

So now the Astros have the likely AL Cy Young winner, Justin Verlander, on the mound going up against Philadelphia’s fourth-best starter.

Verlander has struck out 34.5% of batters over the last month. He’s struggled a bit against righties, but he’s facing a Phillies lineup that has struck out nearly 25% of the time against righties. The Phillies couldn’t even earn one hit yesterday. I’d expect Verlander to have an excellent outing, despite his career numbers in the postseason being a little weak.

Meanwhile, the Phillies will send out Noah Syndergaard for tonight’s game. Syndergaard has allowed an ISO of .231 to his last 13 righties faced. Jeremy Pena is hitting a .298 ISO and wOBA of .370 against his last 49 righties, while Alex Bregman has hit a .300 ISO with a wOBA of .396 against his last 44 righties faced.

Those two have consistently done damage to righties and have a good matchup against Syndergaard tonight.

Houston Astros vs. Philadelphia Phillies (The “Phillies” Angle)

  • Leg 1: JT Realmuto 1+ Hit  (-160)
  • Leg 2: Rhys Hoskins 1+ Hit (-140)
  • Leg 3: Bryce Harper 2+ Total Bases (+135)

There’s no question that this game is a must-win for Philadelphia. It would be hard trying to win two straight in Houston in Games 6 and 7.

They’re facing Justin Verlander, who has allowed a BABIP of .362 in the last month. He’s also given up 60% hard contact and hasn’t pitched as he did in the regular season.

Righties are hitting a .328 wOBA and ISO of .217 in their last 47 plate appearances. Lefties also have a .273 wOBA and haven’t hit a single ground ball against Verlander in 37 plate appearances.

Righties like Rhys Hoskins and J.T. Realmuto can earn a hit against Verlander from the right side. Hoskins has a .267 ISO with a .33.3% line drive rate against righties over the last 30 days, while J.T. Realmuto is hitting a .302 ISO and wOBA of .421 over his last 47 plate appearances against righties.

Finally, Bryce Harper is super clutch in big moments. He’s hitting a .356 ISO and wOBA of .432 against his last 48 righties. Although Verlander has been worse against righties, this is still a nightmare matchup.
