Top NBA First Basket Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions: Thursday (11/10)
The NBA usually puts together a limited four-game slate on Thursdays. That’s the case tonight after most teams ended up playing yesterday.
Each game starts at 8 pm ET or earlier. If you’re trying to waste some time before Thursday Night Football, consider playing some First Basket plays in the NBA.
I’ve added my favorite spots for tonight’s First Basket market. My picks are below.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Washington Wizards
Although the Dallas Mavericks have won the opening tip 66.7% of the time, the Mavs only score the first field goal 33.3% of the time. It’s also taking the Mavericks 2.7 shots to score their game’s first field goal. Meanwhile, the Washington Wizards are winning the tip 50% of the time and scoring the first field goal 50% of the time, needing just 1.7 shots to earn the first basket.
Kristaps Porzingis has been the hot hand early for the Wizards, scoring six of the team’s first baskets. He’s also scored three of the first field goals while taking 1.10 shots per the first three.
Let’s back Porzingis to score early against his former team.
Bet: Kristaps Porzingis (+380)
Philadelphia 76ers vs. Atlanta Hawks
The 76ers have scored the first field goal in 80% of games this season. They’ve also won the tip 60% of the time and need under two shots to score their first basket this season.
On the other hand, the Hawks have only won the tip 50% of the time and have needed 2.5 shots to score their first field goal. There’s a good chance that the 76ers get on the board first.
Joel Embiid has missed some time already this season. But he’s scored the team’s first basket in four of his six starts, with three being the first field goals.
He’s taking 1.17 shots of the first three for the Sixers and is the clear option if you’re looking to back the 76ers to score first. Tobias Harris has two first field goals and three of the team’s first field goals, but he’s played in four more games than Embiid has.
Bet: Joel Embiid (+430)
Charlotte Hornets vs. Miami Heat
The Miami Heat are winning the tip at a high rate. But they’re not scoring on that first possession very often. They’ve needed 2.7 shots for their first field goal this season.
Gordon Hayward has been the best option for the Hornets. But it’s likely he’ll be out for this game. That leaves us with Terry Rozier and Mason Plumlee as the two best options for Charlotte.
Rozier is taking over one shot per the first three shots for the Hornets. He has the highest potential for Charlotte and has a first basket this season. I’ll take my chances with Rozier at +700 odds.
Bet: Terry Rozier (+700)
