NBA Playoffs Best Bets, Picks & Predictions: Wednesday (5/10)

Will we have our first team(s) moving on to the Conference Finals in the NBA Playoffs?

Oddsmakers don’t think so. But if the Miami Heat or Los Angeles Lakers pull off an upset on the road in Game 5, the Final Four of the NBA Playoffs will start to shape up.

Here are my top two bets for tonight’s slate of games.

Miami Heat at New York Knicks

The Knicks took a deflating loss to the Miami Heat in Game 4. New York couldn’t earn a win on the road and already have a loss at home earlier in the series.

The Knicks still shot at a higher percentage than the Heat in Game 4. However, Miami attempted nine more field goals, thanks to nine more rebounds and four fewer turnovers.

New York is one of the best offensive teams in the NBA, but the defense hasn’t carried over much against the Heat. The rebounding has also been a bit of a shock for the Knicks. New York is typically one of the best rebounding teams in the NBA, but the Heat are bullying them around the paint.

New York used to get production off the bench, however, with Immanuel Quickley injured and out, the Knicks have lacked depth.

Meanwhile, Miami got 15 from Kyle Lowry off the bench and ten more from Caleb Martin. Jimmy Butler has had a terrific playoff performance so far, which likely won’t change tonight.

The Knicks’ season will likely conclude tonight.

Bet: Heat +3.5 (-110)

Los Angeles Lakers at Golden State Warriors

Golden State is back home after losing two straight to the Lakers on the road.

We’ve seen it all in this series. We’ve had two tight games and two blowouts. But moving forward, every game will be highly competitive and close.

Steph Curry turned in a tremendous performance in Game 4 for the Warriors. He had a triple-double with 31 points on 12-for-30 from the field. But it wasn’t enough. The Warriors collapsed in the final 90 seconds, allowing the Lakers to escape.

Golden State has been playing a ton of different lineups and experimenting ever since Kevon Looney got sick. They’ve had some excellent lineups and some questionable ones, but there’s no denying the depth of Golden State.

However, despite Los Angeles shooting just 24% from deep, the Warriors still couldn’t beat them. The Lakers are getting to the foul line at a much higher rate because they’re taking fewer threes per game. That’s benefitted the Lakers, but I expect the Warriors to shoot at a much higher rate from downtown at home. That will propel them to a Game 6 back in Los Angeles.

Bet: Warriors -7 (-110
