Golden State Warriors vs. Houston Rockets
In the four games during this series, the Warriors and Rockets have each won the first possession in two games apiece. In Game 4, Alperen Sengun won the tip and scored the first basket. This season, he won the tip in 49% of games, while Draymond Green of the Warriors added the opening tip in just 29% of games. Both teams scored the first basket just under 50% of the time. However, Sengun has been the better tip-off man this season.
The Warriors allowed the first basket to small forwards and power forwards 23% of the time each. Yet, Houston’s forwards, Dillon Brooks and Amen Thompson, have the lowest first basket percentage on the Rockets. Jalen Green has added the team’s first field goal attempt in 28% of games and has added the most first baskets for the Rockets this season. However, he’s been super inconsistent offensively in this series.
Therefore, the best bet is on Sengun to score again. He has added the Rockets’ first basket a team-high 35% of the time. Senguan has also earned the first field goal attempt in 27% of games. We’ll ride Sengun to score the first basket.
Pick: Alperen Sengun (+440)
Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Los Angeles Lakers
It’ll be Rudy Gobert against Jaxson Hayes tonight for the opening tip. Gobert won the tip in 48% of games this season, but the Timberwolves scored the first basket in just 45% of games this season. On the other hand, Hayes wasn’t always the opening tip-off man for the Lakers. Yet, he’s done well enough to help the Lakers sustain the first basket in more than 50% of games this year.
Meanwhile, the Lakers are down 3-1 in this series. They’re going to want to come out strong to begin this game at home. This year, Minnesota allowed the first basket to power forwards 27% of the time. That would be LeBron James, who has scored the first basket in seven games this season. He hasn’t been super aggressive early on. But King James knows what’s at stake.
James has still attempted the team’s first basket in 17% of games. In addition, the Lakers have won the tip in 55% of games this season.
Pick: LeBron James (+700)
