Check out our top NBA preseason picks and predictions for today’s games.
Heat vs. Hornets
The Miami Heat are set to play their first preseason game of the year. Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez, and Josh Richardson could all miss extended time during the preseason. However, it's been reported that Erik Spoelstra wants to see a rotation that includes Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, Herro, and Terry Rozier. However, we might not even see Herro in tonight's game, or any preseason game for that matter. On the other hand, the Hornets lost their first preseason game to the Knicks. LaMelo Ball looked healthy after sitting out most of last season. He played 19 minutes and scored 18 points. No Hornets player got more than 22 minutes, but this team doesn't lack depth. The Heat will, especially with their current injuries. I'll back the Hornets at -2.5 (-115).
Pick: Hornets -2.5 (-115)

Bulls vs. Cavaliers
The Cleveland Cavaliers are ready to begin a new era with Kenny Atkinson as head coach. Atkinson is known for putting together good offensive schemes and has many people affiliated with the Cavaliers optimistic about the season. Conversely, the Bulls could have Lonzo Ball play some minutes in tonight's game. It's not confirmed and still uncertain, but after significant knee surgeries in 2022, we could see Ball back in the lineup as soon as tonight. There have already been reports about his aggression in practice. Even if he does play, he likely won't make much of an impact with a low amount of minutes. The Cavaliers also have way more cohesion heading into this one. I'll take Cleveland at -3.5 (-120).
Pick: Cavaliers -3.5 (-120)

Suns vs. Pistons
Phoenix and Detroit both won their first games of the preseason. The Suns knocked off the Lakers 118-114, while Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, and Devin Booker all got 14 minutes. The depth of the Suns was a major question mark this season. It was poor last season but looks at least better this year. Josh Okogie drained 15 points in 16 minutes and Ryan Dunn added nine points after playing 24 minutes. I also love the addition of Tyus Jones at point guard. Meanwhile, the Pistons scored 120 points in a 120-87 win over the Bucks. Jaden Ivey, Cade Cunningham, and Jaren Duran each played at least 23 minutes and made a strong impact. Detroit won by more than 30 points but still only played 13 players. Both teams have enough depth to sustain good offensive games. I'll back the Over 222.5 (-110) here.
Pick: Over 222.5 (-110)

Pacers vs. Hawks
When it comes to the regular season, a game like this is guaranteed to result in many points. Two explosive offenses with little defensive effort. The Hawks will look a little different this year after dealing Dejounte Murray to the Pelicans in a deal that added Dyson Daniels amongst others. This should allow Daniels, a highly touted young player to flourish alongside Trae Young who will be able to take full control of the offense. For Indiana, they’re looking to build on an Eastern Conference Finals appearance led by budding young superstar Tyrese Halliburton. With all-star Pascal Siakim and a talented Benedict Mathurin, this team should be poised again to succeed. How much either team’s stars will play is still up in the air, but these are both incredibly strong offensive teams that were able to score points still as those players missed time with injury last year. Don’t be surprised to see the scoreboard lit up in this contest.
Pick: Over 226.5 (-115)

Nets vs. Clippers
The Nets are already very injured heading into the preseason. Nic Claxton, Day'Ron Sharpe, Trendon Watford, and Bojan Bogdanovic are all out. Therefore, the Nets could have a starting lineup of Dennis Schroder, Cam Thomas, Cam Johnson, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Ben Simmons. They'll also have Noah Clowney off the bench. But clearly, this team will lack depth throughout the preseason. On the other hand, in the first game of the preseason for the Clippers, none of their starters played more than 18 minutes. They also had no player score more than 14 points and shot 38.5% from the field and 22.9% from deep against the Warriors in an earlier 91-90 preseason loss. Consider the Under 216.5 (-115) in this one.
Pick: Under 216.5 (-115)
