The Magic were among the more surprising teams last year, adding 13 wins from their previous season to earn a playoff spot. They will try to build on that with Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, and they brought in Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who has recently won two NBA championships (Lakers 2020, Nuggets 2023).
They weren't the most explosive offense, but that defense that allowed the second-fewest points (107.4) kept them in contention almost every night to where Banchero and Wagner could carry them.
The Heat's season ended in disappointment and a lot of tension. They lost to the eventual champion Celtics in five games. That wasn't the biggest story of that series; Jimmy Butler missed it with an injury, but that didn't stop him from saying they would win the series after the Game 2 victory. That brought tension between him and the team, and many believed he was gone. If Miami gets off to a bad start, don't be surprised if Butler is on the trading block.
