A pair of 2-2 teams will face off in the nation’s capital on Sunday as the Saints head east to take on the Football Team. Both teams come into the season with new quarterbacks at the helm, having seen mixed results to this point and in desperate need of a win before divisional play really starts heating up as the weather turns.

Let’s take a closer look and see where the value remains.

  • Current Line: Washington +2, O/U 44.5
  • Last meeting: October 18, 2018, Washington 19, Saints 43

Overview

This Washington team, who was already playing well below last year’s level ranking near the bottom of the league in total defense and total scoring defense, now must carry on without two of its most critical starters. In last week’s 34-30 win in Atlanta, linebacker Jon Bostic and cornerback Torry McTye were both lost for the year with season-ending injuries as the road now only gets tougher.

On the offensive side of the ball, Taylor Heinicke led this team to that come from behind win vs. Atlanta last week, as he leads an offense that has put up 25.3 points 342 yards of total offense per game this season.

For the Saints, the post-Drew Brees era has been a mixed back as Jameis Winston has shown flashes of why Payton and company felt so confident he was their guy heading into the season. Putting up 28+ points in both of their wins, Winston has notably limited his turnovers coming into this week with just two on the season.

  • Over 4-0 in L4 Saint’s October games
  • Over 6-0 in L6 Saints/Football Team games
  • Football teams 6-1 ATS in L7 October games

Bottom Line

Sticking to +1 through much of the week, the recent tick to +2 signals some sharper money coming in on the visiting Saints and I completely see why. With a bye week looming for them, I expect a focused effort from a Saints team that holds significant edges both on the offense and the coaching staff.

While the defense in aggregate might be better in Washington, two key injuries will take more than a week to adjust for and I like for the Saints to roll in this one.

Pick: Saints -2
