NFL Monday Night Football Best Bets & Predictions: Eagles vs. Seahawks (Week 15)

Originally the NFL scheduled the Chiefs and Patriots for Week 15 Monday Night Football. Thankfully, the game was flexed out for a Eagles and Seahawks matchup with a lot more at stake. The Eagles are still in the hunt for both the NFC East title and the 1-seed bye in the NFC. The Seahawks, meanwhile, are playing for their playoff lives down the stretch here. It should be a fantastic matchup so let’s take a look at some of the best angles.

Philadelphia Eagles at Seattle Seahawks

The biggest storyline coming into this matchup is the availability at quarterback for both of these teams. For Seattle, Geno Smith is questionable with a groin injury. Many reports indicate there is a good chance he doesn’t play. If so, Drew Lock will start at quarterback. Lock had some success against a strong San Francisco defense last week. He threw for 269 yards on 71.0% accuracy with two TDs. He had two interceptions to go with it, but against a Philadelphia secondary that has been getting torched recently and will be without Darius Slay, it may be less of an issue.

If Jalen Hurts is unable to go due to an illness that reportedly had him feeling worse on Sunday, the Eagles will look to Marcus Mariota. He has only had three pass attempts all season prior to this week. Hurts is such a major cog for this team offensively, and if he’s out of the lineup, they could be in trouble.

Hurts’s legs in the run game are critical. The two-headed monster of Hurts and Swift rank fifth in DVOA for run offenses. Mariota would negate that power run game, and they may be forced to rely more on the pass game.

Neither of these defenses are particularly strong. The Eagles pass defense has been exposed in recent weeks and rank 23rd in pass defense DVOA. Lock has the arm to be able to move the ball on them. The Seattle defense actually ranks even worse in the pass game, 27th, and are below average stopping the run.

The questionability of the quarterbacks makes it difficult to pick a side. However, these defenses are severely banged up to add to the fact that both have been performing poorly as of late. Regardless of who is under center for either of these teams, the over is a play.

Pick: Over 45 (-110)
