LFG.

Prime-Time Highlight (Through Week 7)

  • League-wide in 2026, Thursday-night underdogs are 5-2 ATS (seven games, including the Melbourne opener) and favorites are 2-5; the O/U is 4-3 toward the Over. Across all 22 prime-time games (Wednesday opener, TNF, SNF and MNF), underdogs are 14-7-1 ATS and favorites 7-14-1, with the O/U split 11-11.
  • Green Bay’s one TNF game this season was a 35-14 home loss to Atlanta as a 4.5-point favorite; Carolina’s one prime-time game was the Week 4 Sunday-night win over Detroit as a 3.5-point underdog.

NFL Thursday Night Football Betting Primer: Carolina Panthers vs. Green Bay Packers

Betting Lines & Odds

Erickson’s Pick: Panthers +3.5

Trends

  • Carolina has covered the spread in 12 straight games following a loss, dating back to last season. So far, that trend has continued in 2026. The Panthers are 2-0 ATS after a loss: a 34-3 win at Atlanta in Week 2 (as a 2.5-point road favorite, after the Week 1 loss to Chicago) and a 32-26 win over Detroit in Week 4 (as a 3.5-point home underdog, after the Week 3 loss at Cleveland). Thursday’s game is their next after-a-loss test, following a 43-13 home loss to Tampa Bay in Week 7 (where they failed to cover the -2.5 spread by more than 30 points).
  • League-wide, teams coming off a loss by 20 or more points are 12-3-1 ATS in 2026 (16 games, through Week 7). That includes Carolina’s own Week 2 cover after its 59-37 loss to Chicago. Green Bay is the lone push in that group (Week 4 at Tampa Bay, after the 35-14 home loss to Atlanta). Again, Carolina lost by 30 on Sunday.
  • As a road team, Carolina is 2-1 ATS and 0-3 O/U in 2026 (a cover at Atlanta, a non-cover at Cleveland, and a cover at Philadelphia, all as a road favorite; all three went Under). The Panthers have not been a road underdog yet this season (0 games). As an underdog overall, they are 1-1 ATS and 2-0 O/U (both at home: a non-cover against Chicago and a cover against Detroit).
  • Across all 2026 games, Carolina is 3-3 ATS and 3-3 O/U.
  • As a home favorite (the role it plays here), Green Bay is 1-1 ATS and 1-1 O/U in 2026 (2 games: a Week 3 non-cover against Atlanta and a Week 6 cover against Dallas as a 1.5-point favorite). Overall: across all home games, 2-1 ATS and 1-2 O/U (the Week 5 win over Chicago came as a 1.5-point underdog); across all games as a favorite, 1-2-1 ATS and 1-3 O/U; across all 2026 games, 3-3-1 ATS and 2-5 O/U.
  • Carolina’s road games have stayed Under the total four straight (2025 Week 18 at Tampa Bay, then 2026 Weeks 2, 3 and 6 at closing totals of 44.5, 42.5 and 39.5). This game’s total of roughly 47.5 is higher than any Carolina road game this season.
  • Green Bay has also stayed Under in four straight (Weeks 4 through 7). On the other side, the Panthers are Over-leaning after a loss (16-7 O/U since 2024) and have gone Over in all three home games in 2026.
  • Streaks through Week 7. CAR: 3-3 straight up (1-game losing streak), 3-3 against the spread (1-game non-cover streak), 3-3 toward the total (1-game Over streak). GB: 4-3 straight up (1-game losing streak), 3-3-1 against the spread (3-game cover streak across Weeks 5-7, with the Week 4 push before it), 2-5 toward the total (4-game Under streak).
  • Green Bay has covered three straight, but before that they were riding a GB 0-9-1 record ATS since they lost Micah Parsons. Officially 3-9-1 ATS in last 13 games.
  • Both teams are on a short week after playing Sunday. Carolina lost 43-13 at home to Tampa Bay as a 3-point favorite; Green Bay lost 20-17 at Detroit but covered as a 3.5-point road underdog.
  • Home favorites have struggled across the league this season: 25-32-2 ATS in 2026 (neutral-site games excluded), and 11-10-1 ATS when laying between 3 and 4 points.

Injuries

  • CAR OLB Jaelan Phillips (hamstring): did not practice Monday or Tuesday; he missed Week 7, and he will be out another week.
  • CAR RT Taylor Moton (fractured fibula): hurt in the Week 7 loss and placed on injured reserve Monday.
  • CAR G Damien Lewis (knee) and G Torricelli Simpkins III (ankle): did not practice Monday or Tuesday. Both are out.
  • GB WR Matthew Golden (shoulder/foot): did not practice Monday or Tuesday. Zach Kruse of Packers Wire wrote that Golden and G/T Travis Glover are in danger of missing Thursday; Matt LaFleur said he hopes Golden plays.
  • GB C Sean Rhyan (high ankle sprain): did not practice Monday or Tuesday; LaFleur does not expect him back Thursday, and earlier reports say he may miss multiple weeks. Backup C Jacob Monk (quad) was placed on injured reserve. John Williams (second-year tackle) filled in at center in Week 7 and may start there again; Green Bay signed OL Mekhi Becton from the practice squad as they continue to deal with offensive line injuries.
  • GB LG Aaron Banks (knee/toe): limited Monday and Tuesday (full on Wednesday).
  • GB LB Zaire Franklin (shin): hairline fracture; did not practice Monday or Tuesday and is out. He has not been placed on injured reserve.
  • GB DT Devonte Wyatt (ankle): did not practice Monday, limited Tuesday; he left the Week 7 game in the first half but returned.

Betting Preview

Carolina is 7-0 ATS on the road following a loss, and underdogs have won four straight games at Lambeau Field. The Panthers have been one of the marquee teams to bet on after big losses, and Green Bay is just 6-11 ATS as a favorite since the start of last season (1-2-1 ATS as a favorite this season).

Therefore, my best bet in this game is the Panthers catching the 3.5.

They have covered 12 straight following a loss, and both after-loss games this season were covers, including the 34-3 win at Atlanta after the Week 1 blowout by Chicago. Now they come off a 43-13 home loss to Tampa Bay, and teams coming off a loss of 20 or more points are 12-3-1 ATS this season.

Add in Thursday-night underdogs at 5-2 ATS and prime-time underdogs at 14-7-1, and getting more than a field goal is a number I want to take. Shop for the +4.

Understandably, I get some reservations about Carolina given they are missing so many key pieces on their offensive line, at edge, and at cornerback. But this has been the case for most of the season. Meanwhile, it’s not like Green Bay is far up in the trust tree given their own offensive line woes.

The total is a push-and-pull at 47.5. It is higher than any Carolina road game this season, and the Panthers have stayed Under in all three road games, and Green Bay has gone Under four straight. But Carolina is Over-leaning after a loss, and both offenses will be working through offensive line injuries on a short week.

Savion Williams caught 3 of 3 for 47 yards and ran twice for 4 (6.4% adjusted, from 11.4%) in Week 7. Snap share: 40 of 67 (60%), from 40 of 75 (53%).

The Packers No. 3 WR has been operating in the "Jayden Reed" role as the third receiver on 60% of the snaps, with two big catches that were conversions on 3 total targets. He has at least 3 catches in both games this season (7 total targets) while seeing both designed targets near the line of scrimmage (1.5 air yards per target in Week 6) and downfield looks (2 10-plus air yard targets in Week 7). With Matthew Golden banged up, we could see more of Williams. The second-year WR is already seeing his role expand over the last two games.

I think that continues in Week 8. Williams had 2 catches for 12 yards when GB played Carolina last year on just a 30% snap share (his 2025 season high).

Chuba Hubbard has hit over 85.5 rushing + receiving yards in 4 of his 6 games played this season (including 3 of last 4), and gone over in all three non-blowout games for Carolina in 2026.

And even though he fell short last week, it was a tougher matchup versus Tampa Bay (still totaled 11 touches for 60 yards in three quarters, and actually had 90 yards from scrimmage in total but had a gain wiped away on a flag).

Per Next Gen Stats,  Hubbard has been contacted at or behind the line of scrimmage on 45.8% of his carries this season but has gained positive yardage on 79.5% of those carries, the highest rate among running backs (min. 40 carries). 92.0% of the rushing yards GB has allowed have come after contact, the highest rate. Green Bay has allowed 224 yards on designed runs contacted at or behind the line of scrimmage this season, the most in the NFL and 64 more than any other defense.

Given Hubbard’s bell-cow status as both a rusher/receiver, I think he piles up yardage. It’s a 5-star bet on the Prop Bet Cheat Sheet this week for Thursday Night Football. Through 6 games played this season, Hubbard has found the end zone in 4 of them. GB is allowing 1.3 rushing TDs/game to opposing RBs.

For a long-shot first TD play…Jalen Coker at 13-1 odds. Bryce Young missed him on a deep target last week that would have been an easy TD score. Highest-rated 1st TD bet on the BettingPros First Touchdown Scorer Report.
