Chicago Bears vs. Detroit Lions
In Week 1, the Chicago Bears are at home facing the Minnesota Vikings. The Bears and Vikings both have some uncertainties heading into the season. However, the biggest one is regarding J.J. McCarthy at quarterback. He’s not a rookie, however, he’ll make his first NFL start this weekend against a Bears team that has always been solid on the defensive end.
Meanwhile, the offense could be much improved behind Caleb Williams. DJ Moore broke out for Chicago last year. They’ve also brought in Luther Burden III and Colston Loveland to help out on the offensive end, with Rome Odunze also in the mix. There’s a lot of talent, now they’ve just got to put it all together.
Since the Lions have lost both coordinators from last season, Detroit could certainly decline slightly this season. They’ll be on the road against a Packers team that is usually fundamentally sound on both sides of the field. The Packers made a huge splash and traded for Micah Parsons last week, and they wouldn’t be doing that if they didn’t believe they were Super Bowl contenders.
Therefore, I’ve got the Packers earning a win over the Lions. If the Lions lose and the Bears win, we won’t see the Bears at +4.5 (-105) ahead of this Week 2 showdown.
Pick: Bears +4.5 (-105)
New England Patriots vs. Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins will begin their season on the road against the Indianapolis Colts. This is the first season where Tyreek Hill isn’t a captain for the Dolphins and it all seems to be unraveling. The Dolphins are a complete hit-or-miss team. It hasn’t gone well for them over the last couple of seasons with injuries to their key players. Ultimately, they’ll face a Colts team that made some improvements. Indianapolis has decided to start Daniel Jones over Anthony Richardson, which demonstrates their commitment to winning. Richardson was the prized prospect for the Colts just a couple of years ago. Now, he’s on the bench with Jones as the starter.
There’s a reason for that. The Dolphins could very well lose the opener on the road to the Colts.
Conversly, the Patriots will battle the Las Vegas Raiders. New England went out and hired Mike Vrabel, who is a proven winner at the highest level. Drake Maye is expected to break out, and the Patriots added some key signings like Milton Williams and Carlton Davis III in the secondary. They also brought in Stefon Diggs at wide receiver and added Josh McDaniels back as the offensive coordinator.
If the Patriots win and the Dolphins get embarrassed, you’ll no longer find the Patriots at +114 in this divisional matchup for Week 2.
Pick: Patriots Moneyline (+114)
