Broncos vs. Jets Week 6 NFL TD Scorer Picks
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
First Touchdown Scorer Pick: Evan Engram (+2000) & Anytime Touchdown Scorer Pick: Evan Engram (+310)
The Jets allow 5.2 points per first quarter, while the Broncos score four first-quarter points per game. The Jets struggle to get going offensively early in the game, and the Broncos allow the second-fewest points (16.8) per game. They also allow the second-most points per game (31.4).
The Jets also struggle against tight ends, allowing one touchdown per game to the position. They only allow 5.4 receptions and 40.40 receiving yards to the tight end position, but they cannot keep them out of the end zone. Jake Ferguson and Darren Waller each scored twice against them in the past two weeks.
Evan Engram is averaging 6.5 targets per game since returning from injury. He only had six targets in the first two weeks, but he is much more involved over the last two weeks. His red-zone usage is not significant, however. He only has two receptions on three targets, but has one touchdown in the red zone. The matchup is primed for Engram to have a good day and find the end zone early.
Anytime Touchdown Scorer Pick: Troy Franklin (+245)
Troy Franklin is due for another touchdown this season. He scored in Week 2, but has yet to find the end zone since, despite averaging the second-most targets per game (6.4) on the team. Sauce Gardner could shadow Courtland Sutton this week, so Franklin should see an uptick in targets.
Franklin has the most targets on the team (seven) inside the red zone. He has caught five of them for 44 yards and one touchdown. He has a lot of upside this week against the Jets, who allow 0.8 touchdowns per game to the wide receiver position. Franklin is also good against single high coverage, which the Jets run about 60% of the time. Franklin is a solid option to score this week.
Anytime Touchdown Scorer Pick: Mason Taylor (+280)
The Jets are projected to score around 17 to 18 points, while the Broncos are projected to score around 27. Broncos players have more opportunities to score should the projections ring true, but the Jets probably find the end zone. Mason Taylor is an intriguing option to score against a tough Broncos defense. Taylor has been an integral part of the offense over the past two weeks. He averages 5.6 targets per game on the season, but 8.3 over the last three weeks, including 12 last week.
Patrick Surtain II likely shadows Garrett Wilson, which makes Taylor even more of a focal point. Denver has performed well against tight ends this season, but when they do catch the ball, they average 10.65 yards per reception. Taylor has three targets in the red zone this season, but has not scored despite catching all of them. Although Taylor has yet to find the end zone this season, he is a prime candidate to score this week.
