NHL Picks & Predictions: Wednesday (10/28)

The NHL has a relatively small 4-game slate to follow up Tuesday’s mega board. Matchups to monitor on tonight’s calendar include Devils vs. Avalanche and Maple Leafs vs. Kraken.

Last week, my NHL Picks & Predictions: Wednesday (10/21) settled 2-1 for a profitable night. Both of my bets in the Flyers vs. Sabres game cashed, hitting Flyers +1.5 and Under 6.5 during Philadelphia’s 3-1 road win in Buffalo. The lone loss was on Under 5.5 during the Senators’ 5-1 win over the Panthers during Brady Tkachuk’s return to Ottawa.

We’re also coming off a 2-1 outing on Tuesday night, cashing Under 6.5 in Bruins vs. Hurricanes and the Wild moneyline at plus odds. The Predators’ overtime loss kept us from a clean sweep. Still, we’re in good shape, going 4-2 in my last 2 combined NHL Picks & Predictions write-ups.

Calgary Flames vs. Edmonton Oilers Picks

The Flames are among the hottest teams in the league right now, riding a 4-game winning streak into Edmonton tonight. Led by F Joel Farabee with 11 points, Calgary faces an Oilers team that has lost consecutive games, both at home. There’s value backing Calgary on the puck line at a reasonable price.

Devin Cooley is expected in net for the Flames tonight. He’s 4-2 with a 2.67 GAA and a .914 save percentage, holding opponents to 2 or fewer goals in 3 of his past 4 starts.

Tristan Jarry is the expected netminder for the Oilers. Jarry has been a bit more vulnerable compared to Cooley, giving up 8 total goals in his last 2 starts.

Calgary has won 3 of the last 4 head-to-head matchups against Edmonton. Let’s lay a bit of juice and bet on the Flames +1.5 puck line at -155 odds to start Wednesday’s NHL betting card.

      Pick: Flames +1.5  (-155)

New Jersey Devils vs. Colorado Avalanche Picks

It’s the second time in a week we’ll see the Devils and Avalanche square off on the ice. New Jersey is riding a 4-game winning streak into tonight’s road tilt in Denver, spurred by their previous 4-3 victory over Colorado.

The Avalanche have not been as dominant to start the new season as many expected. Colorado has lost 3 of its last 4 games outright, including a 4-goal loss to the Predators in their last outing.

Led by star forward Jack Hughes, this matchup likely comes down to goaltending. The Devils will likely start Jake Allen in net after Connor Hellebuyck’s successful debut in the crease on Tuesday night.

Allen has a 2.84 GAA and a 5-2 record. He’s coming off allowing 1 goal on 13 shots faced against the Kings.

Colorado is expected to start Mackenzie Blackwood. He’s surrendered 3 goals in 3 straight starts for the Avalanche. In fact, he’s allowed 3+ goals in 6 of 8 starts this season, resulting in 3 losses.

New Jersey is trending up, and the Avalanche still hold weight at home due to their name and top-tier players like Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar. Bet on the Devils to win outright at plus odds tonight.

      Pick: Devils Moneyline (+124)

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Seattle Kraken Picks

A late-night puck drop features an interconference matchup between opponents with winning records when the Kraken host the Maple Leafs. Toronto is a -142 road favorite, while the goal total sits at 6.5.

Seattle has won 4 straight games as an underdog against Toronto. The Kraken have also won 2 of their last 3 home games, although they are coming off a 5-1 loss to the Wild in their last contest.

The Maple Leafs just had their win streak snapped by the Flames in a 5-2 road loss. Now, Toronto will try to regroup against a Kraken offense ranked 7th in goals scored per game (3.58).

Philpp Grubauer is set to start for Seattle in net tonight. He’s 4-1-1 with a 2.76 GAA, while Anthony Stolarz has a 4-1 record and a 2.79 GAA for Toronto.

Goaltending is virtually identical in this game. This includes the Maple Leafs’ offense, which is also a top-5 scoring unit in the league.

The Kraken have a ton of depth in terms of production. This gives them an edge over the Maple Leafs, who rely heavily on Auston Matthews and William Nylander to lead via the first attack line.

Let’s bet on the home underdog. Place one final wager on the Kraken moneyline at +120 odds.

      Pick: Kraken Moneyline (+120)
