The Jets have logged back-to-back wins after suffering an embarrassing 26-18 loss at Miami on November 3. The Jets’ upstart offense behind the arm of quarterback Sam Darnold has been a catalyst for their recent success, as New York has scored 34 points in each of their past two games. Granted, that came against the Giants and Washington, who represent two of the worst defenses in the league. It will be interesting to see if they can keep it going against a Raiders’ team that ranks 25th in yards per play allowed.

The Raiders are winners of three straight games, capped off by a 17-10 victory over the Bengals last Sunday. While each of those contests were played at home, it should be noted that the Raiders are 3-2 ATS away from home this season as well. They took care of business with outright victories in London over the Bears and at the Colts. In other words, traveling across the country shouldn’t be too much of a burden on a team that had a crazy road schedule through the month of October.

Overview

Are the Jets for real? That’s the main question coming into this game. Sure, they beat up Washington and the cross-town Giants, but facing the Raiders will be a step up in competition. If New York wants to cover this game, they’ll likely have to play much better defense. The Jets have allowed 33, 29, 26, 27, and 17 points to the Patriots, Jaguars, Dolphins, Giants, and Washington respectively. Yielding 17 points to a Washington team that hadn’t scored a touchdown in a month is worse than it actually looks. Derek Carr, Josh Jacobs, and the Raiders’ receivers should be excited by the matchup potential in this upcoming draw.

Trends

  • The Jets are 1-6-1 in their last eight against the AFC.
  • The under is 7-2-1 in the Raiders’ last 10 against the AFC.
  • The Jets have gone over in four straight games.

Prop Bets

Hunter Renfrow OVER 43 Receiving Yards
The rookie from Clemson has really stepped up for the Raiders, averaging a steady 63 receiving yards over his past four games. This is an interesting spot for Renfrow to keep thriving, as the Jets have been generous to opposing slot receivers. He has seen five or more targets in three straight games, and I believe that will push him over 50 receiving yards (at least) against a vulnerable Jets’ secondary.

Bottom Line

There are a ton of questions heading into this matchup. Will the Jets play inspired football while carrying momentum into this home draw? Are the Raiders overlooking New York with bigger fish to fry in the future (Chiefs next week)? I believe taking OVER 46.5 is the way to go, as both of these secondaries have had trouble this season. With the Jets’ offense finally waking up, we could have a shootout on our hands.
