Super Bowl LVII Game Preview

The Philadelphia Eagles earned a bye week to start the postseason. That allowed Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts to rest up and recover from an injury.

When the Eagles began the postseason, Hurts looked much better than he did in Week 18 and helped the Eagles dominate the Giants in the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs, 38-7.

The domination didn’t stop there. In the NFC Championship Round, the Eagles earned a 31-7 win over the San Francisco 49ers. Philadelphia’s pass rush ultimately knocked out San Francisco’s quarterbacks, Brock Purdy and Josh Johnson, from the game. Purdy had an elbow injury from getting hit on an attempted throw, and Johnson had a head injury from being tackled to the ground after taking over for Purdy.

The Eagles have had an easy road to the Super Bowl. But they earned that easy road with a terrific pass rush and a consistent and efficient offense that scored over 28 points per game this year in the postseason.

Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs have had to sweat out the playoffs a little more. Kansas City escaped the Jaguars in the AFC Divisional game after earning a bye week to begin the playoffs. Patrick Mahomes suffered a high-ankle sprain and didn’t play the second half against the Jaguars.

His status was in question against the Bengals in the AFC Conference Championship. He played.

And while he was hurt, Mahomes looked better than most would’ve expected and carried the Chiefs to a 23-20 win over the Bengals to reach another Super Bowl.

Mahomes has way more experience in these big moments than Jalen Hurts and most of the Eagles roster. The same could be said about head coach Andy Reid compared to Nick Sirianni. But ultimately, the Eagles’ pass rush should be the difference maker.

Mahomes likely can’t escape the pocket as much as he would like. An extra week of rest will help him, but Philadelphia’s front line on the offense and defense will outshine Kansas City in this game.

Plus, Jalen Hurts has plenty of ability to escape the pocket and make plays with his feet. Chris Jones and the Kansas City front line are excellent too. But Philadelphia’s offensive line is the best in the NFL and has looked very synced as a group throughout the postseason.

I’m backing the Eagles in the Super Bowl.

Bet: Eagles -1.5 (-110
