Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Philadelphia Eagles Team Odds & Game Pick (2021)

The Buccaneers rebounded last week following Brady’s lackluster return to Foxboro like many expected they would, blowing out the Dolphins at home. The team now returns to the northeast to take on an Eagles team who has been nothing if not inconsistent as they look to gain their footing under second-year quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Let’s take a closer look at how these two NFC foes match up.

  • Current Line: Eagles +7, O/U 52
  • Last meeting: September 16, 2018, Eagles 21, Bucs 27

Overview

After being largely kept in check in his return to New England two weeks ago, Tom Brady exploded for 411 yards and five touchdowns in the Buc’s 45-17 route of the Dolphins last week. The performance was the first 400+ and 5+ TD performance of his career and puts him #2 in the league in TD passes at 15.

While Brady looks to be a go despite suffering a thumb injury last week, starting linebacker Lavonte David (ankle) is now expected to miss multiple games. The Bucs may also be without safety Antoine Winfield Jr. (concussion), who is dealing with an injury of his own.

Facing the reigning Super Bowl champs this week is the fledgling Eagles, who come into this game following a 21-18 road win against the Panthers last week to find the win column for the second time this season.

Despite the offense hovering around average to below average, the Eagles defense has exceeded expectations thus far as they rank near the top of the league in multiple defensive categories. Led by one of the best front sevens in the league, perennial Pro Bowler Fletcher Cox and emerging stud Javon Hargrave anchor this line as the best unit on this team.

In the secondary, Darius Slay and Steven Nelson accounted for three interceptions last week as the secondary has begun to get its footing. The defense has mostly carried the young Eagles’ offense to this point.

Trends

  • Over 5-1 in L6 meetings
  • Over 5-0 in Eagles L5 Week 6 games
  • Bucs 1-7 ATS in L8 Thursday games

Bottom Line

With just three days of rest for both teams, look for both offenses to have simplified game plans heading into Thursday night in Philly. While the Eagles’ offense hasn’t shown much of anything, I look for them to take advantage of a depleted Buc’s defense that has shown cracks so far this season, even when healthy.

And we know the points the Bucs are capable of.

I’m taking the over on a total that has fallen since the opening number, expecting Brady to play at no less than 75%, which should be more than enough to put up 30+ on this Eagles defense.
