The Basketball Tournament Picks (TBT) & Predictions: Monday (7/27)

The Basketball Tournament (TBT) continues tonight with two matchups to look forward to. The Gotham City Bockers will take on the Red Rose War Ready in the Non-Alumni side of the bracket. This is considered the Vegas Knockout Round 1. Meanwhile, the JHX Hoops will face the Aftershocks in the Alumni Semifinal later this evening. The winner of this game will face La Familia, who most recently knocked off Boeheim’s Army in the quarterfinals of the Alumni side of the bracket. I’ve got the best The Basketball Tournament picks below.

Monday's Best The Basketball Tournament Picks & Predictions

(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

Gotham City Bockers at Red Rose War Ready

The Gotham City Bockers are looking to add more trophies to the state of New York this season. Some notable names like Lance Thomas and Javon Freeman-Liberty lead them. Some ball knowers would also remember Daniel Ochefu from his days with Villanova.

They’ll take on the Red Rose War Ready. This team is also filled with talent, including Jarron Cumberland and John Harrar. Ultimately, Red Rose War Ready has a lot of length in the frontcourt while the Gotham City Bockers have a lot of solid players around the perimeter.

Once we see these teams in action, we’ll have a better understanding of what each team is trying to do. That said, I’d be more comfortable riding with the size of Red Rose War Ready over the perimeter play of the Gotham City Blockers.

Let’s back Red Rose War Ready on the Moneyline.

Pick: Red Rose War Ready Moneyline (-135)

JHX Hoops at Aftershocks

The Aftershocks are entering this game after earning a best-of-three series win over The Enchantment. The Wichita State Alumni are no strangers to this tournament after winning the entire thing just a year ago. Ultimately, this team has been playing in the TBT since 2019 and had a 23-5 record overall before entering the tournament this year.

In the win-or-go-home matchup against The Enchantment, Marcus Keene stepped up with 23 points in 33 minutes after shooting 50% from the floor. The team also got some solid bench work from QJ Peterson and Marcus Santos-Silva, who contributed 28 points combined off the bench.

The Aftershocks didn’t shoot the ball well from deep and missed a handful of foul shots but still managed to come away with the win.

JHX Hoops also won its do-or-die matchup in the first round, 62-55 over Purple Reign. They’re led by Zeke Mayo, who added 25 points in 39 minutes for JHX in that game. The offense shot 30% from the field and really doesn’t have much depth. They played eight players, including Mario Chalmers, who scored zero points in 13 minutes off the bench.

That said, the defense held Michael Beasley to 17 points and below 50% from the field. The defense allowed just 31.6% shooting from the field and 14.8% from deep.

So far through the first three games, JHX Hoops has gone through scoring droughts. The Aftershocks are physical defensively and clearly have experience in these games.

With that said, let’s back the under in this primetime matchup.

Picks: Under 144.5 Points (-110)
