The Longshots: Monday’s Top Underdog Plays (8/2)

Do you want to win a lot of money without risking much? Who doesn’t? That is the basis this Longshots article series is built on. Three or four times per week, we will find a considerable underdog or funky special line to toss a small wager on and then root like hell for the upset! We will play all “dog” parlays, big event specials, or perhaps literally throw darts at a dart league prop. But, regardless of the sport, the payouts will always be 10 to 1 (+1000) or better. Additionally, we will include one LEAN on a 4 to 1 (+400) or better line for your consideration.

Most importantly, you should never wager money you aren’t willing to lose. Knowing your bankroll limitations is doubly true when betting on the long odds we recommend in these articles. Most pros recommend that you formulate a 1 unit value for standard bets, so bets placed here will be smaller than that — think 0.1 unit increments. Meaning, if you typically wager $10 on a -110 line, you should drop $1 on these 10:1 or greater odds.

Without further adieu, here are today’s longshots.

The WTA hits San Jose, California, this week, and there are a few First Round underdogs on our radar! American Catherine McNally takes on Sloane Stephens. At 19, McNally has been successful as a doubles player, posting a 22-5 record with two titles in 2021. As a singles player, McNally has been solid on the hard surface sporting a 5-5 record, while her opponent has struggled on asphalt. Sloane Stephens is just 1-5 on Hard Courts in 2021. Head to Head, Stephens is 1-0, but that clash was on clay, Stephens best surface, and McNally competed well 7-6, 6-4. We see McNally as primed to pull the upset. Next, Emma Raducanu, 18, from Great Britain, had a dream run at Wimbleton last month, which came to an end when she had to withdraw in the 4th round because of breathing concerns. Now, she gets back to her best surface. We think Raducanu is a star with plenty of deep tournament runs left in her this year. Join the WTA conversation on the BettingPros Discord, where gambling conversations are happening live 24 hours a day! Lastly, veteran Coco Vandeweghe draws a fellow American, Alison Riske. Riske has been ousted in the First Round nine times over her last 12 singles tournament entries. Meanwhile, Vandeweghe is 7-3 on the hard surface in California over her previous ten matches.

Longshot Bet of the Day

3 Match Parlay | WIN – Catherine McNally +140 AND Emma Raducanu +125 AND Coco Vandeweghe +105 | 0.1 units (+1007)

Lean

Catherine McNally MATCH PROP | McNally Sets 2-1 | 0.1 units (+450)

We really feel McNally is primed to upset Sloane Stephens, but it should be a competitive match. A classic three-set battle is likely.
