Monday's Best MLB Bets & Picks
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Houston Astros (-102) at Miami Marlins (-119) | O/U 8.5 (-106/-115)
The Houston Astros have lost eight out of their last 10 games, which followed a four-game winning streak. And after getting swept by the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park over the weekend, their 7-15 record since July 7th is the third-worst in the Majors.
Meanwhile, the Miami Marlins are red-hot, having won five straight and 13 out of their last 17 games. Miami’s 11-4 record since the All-Star break is tied for the league’s best, and how it has turned its season around is admirable after losing 40 of its first 64 games.
After being one of the top starting pitchers rumored to be dealt at the trade deadline, Sandy Alcantara remained with the Marlins. Now he can pitch more freely without the distractions of whether he will be dealt. He is looking to build off a 12-inning streak of zero earned runs over his last two starts, where he has allowed just seven hits.
Miami has won each of the last three games Alcantara has toed the rubber, and I expect it to win a fourth straight.
Pick: Marlins Moneyline (-119)
Milwaukee Brewers (-148) at Atlanta Braves (+122) | O/U 8.5 (-118/-103)
The Milwaukee Brewers entered Sunday’s series finale against the Washington Nationals having won five of their previous six games and averaging an MLB-best 7.8 runs per game in that span. All they did for an encore on Sunday was pound out 14 more runs to finish the series with 38 runs on 56 hits.
The Brewers do not seem to miss Jackson Chourio much, as he is currently on the injured list (IL) or Sal Frelick, who left Saturday’s game with knee soreness. Instead, sluggers like Andrew Vaughn have been picking up the slack. Vaughn was batting .440 with three home runs and 11 RBI over an eight-game hitting streak entering Sunday, before extending that to nine games with another two-hit performance yesterday.
The over is 7-0 in the last seven games between these teams at Truist Park. And with the Brewers especially swinging hot bats at the moment, I expect that trend to continue.
Pick: Over 8.5 Runs (-118)
Toronto Blue Jays (-208) at Colorado Rockies (+168) | O/U 11.5 (-115/-105)
The Colorado Rockies may want to recheck their Minor League prospect rankings, as Warming Bernabel was not considered one of their top 30 prospects before his call-up a little over a week ago. However, he has done nothing but rake to begin his career. With him benefiting from another series in Coors Field, we expect his bat to stay hot.
Entering Sunday, Bernabel had a seven-game hit streak to open his career. In that stretch, he was 14-for-28 with four doubles, three home runs and eight RBI. He had two consecutive three-hit games.
Bernabel faces Toronto Blue Jays southpaw Eric Lauer, who is 0-6 with a 12.73 ERA in seven career starts at Coors Field. While there are several hitter props I am interested in because of those horrific numbers, we are getting great value with Bernabel.
Pick: Warming Bernabel Over 1.5 Total Bases (-105)
