Monday’s Best Women’s College Basketball Bets

    (Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)

New Mexico (+142) vs. San Diego State (-3.5)

    • Start Time: 5:30 p.m. ET
    • Coverage: Live stream via Fubo

The New Mexico Lobos (18-13, Mountain West: 11-7) meet the San Diego State Aztecs (22-9, Mountain West: 11-7)  today in the Mountain West Conference tournament quarter-finals. This will be the third time these two teams will have played this season. New Mexico won the first game 68-59 on January 4th. San Diego State won the second on February 1st by a score of 59-46.

    Both won on the road.

Since the February 1st loss, New Mexico has gone 5-3, with their last loss coming on February 26th vs. Wyoming (73-65). They followed that game with a pair of close wins - 65-61 over Fresno State and 77-74 against Air Force. San Diego State went on to finish 6-2 with a five-game win streak to end the season.

If I were to pick a winner for this one, I'd lean towards San Diego State since they've been playing better down the stretch than New Mexico. But since they split their season series, I can't say I'm confident the Aztecs can cover or will even win.

However, neither team is an offensive powerhouse. Both regular season games finished well under 135.5 points and I expect this will do so as well.

    Pick: Under 133.5 Points (-110)

East Carolina (+145) vs. North Texas (-3.5)

    • Start Time: 7:00 p.m. ET
    • Coverage: ESPN+

The East Carolina Pirates (17-14, AAC: 8-10) are taking on the North Texas Mean Green (23-7, AAC: 15-3)in the quarter-final round of the American Athletic Conference quarterfinals.

Their regular season meeting ended up being an incredibly hard-fought and competitive game, with the Mean Green coming out ahead 75-73 in double overtime. East Carolina took a 73-70 lead with about a minute left in the second overtime. Kyla Deck tied it up for the Mean Green with a layup at the 0:33 mark and Jaelyn Talley hit a layup with seven seconds left to secure the win for North Texas.

East Carolina finished the season 2-1 with a loss in the regular season finale following the loss to North Texas. As for the Mean Green, the win over the Pirates was the fourth victory in a seven-game winning streak to end the regular season.

My initial thought was to take North Texas and lay the points. But then I can't get past the incredibly low total for this game. I just can't see any reason to think these two teams can't combine to score more than 126.5 points.

East Carolina will not be able to slow North Texas down much (if at all). The Pirates should score just enough to get this one over its projected 126.5 total.

    Pick: Over 126.5 Points (-112)

    Creighton (+2000) vs. Connecticut (-19.5)

    • Start Time: 7:00 p.m. ET
    • Coverage: FS1

Creighton (26-5, Big East: 16-2) earned its way to the Big East Final by winning a close one against Georgetown (72-70) in the quarter-finals and then by crushing Seton Hall (73-44) in the semi-finals on Sunday. UConn had a less challenging route, destroying St. John's 71-40 and then Villanova 82-54.

These two teams know each other fairly well after playing twice in the regular season. Both games were won by UConn, 72-61 on January 25th in Omaha and then 72-53 in Hartford on February 27th. The first quarter in both were competitive, but UConn took over in the second and didn't look back, winning both easily.

The question we need to ask ourselves is whether there is any reason to think this game will be any different. The answer to that question is easy.

    No.

Creighton is a good team in that the Bluejays can be competitive versus almost anyone. But the Huskies are simply out of their league, too talented and have too much depth. This game will probably look a lot like the last one, with UConn easily covering the spread.

    Pick: UConn -19.5 (-110)
