Top College Basketball Betting Odds, Picks & Predictions: Tuesday, December 27th (2022)
College basketball slowly gets back into the swing of things with five games involving Division I teams today after no teams were in action yesterday or Christmas Eve. Our two picks involve a game between two Big East teams that project to stay in the top half of the league all year and an ACC team on upset alert against a feisty team from the ASUN.

Jacksonville vs. Notre Dame Spread
It is not often that a small conference team like Jacksonville reloads a roster that lost three of its best shooters and top two assist men from last year’s team with a bevy of Power 6 transfers, but that is precisely what it did. While Cam McDowell (Georgia) and D.J. Gordon (Penn State) have been limited to just eight games between them, Morehead State transfer Skyelar Potter is the team’s leading scorer (15.1 points per game). Potter is one of four of the Dolphins’ top six leading scorers that shoot 43.5% or better from 3-point range and is a big reason they have a great chance to rank top 15 in spacing and shooting, per ShotQuality. Meanwhile, Notre Dame has lost three straight and four of five in large part because its defense does not turn opponents over (363rd in turnover rate) and ranks outside the top 230 in effective field goal percentage defense.
Bet: Jacksonville +8 (-110 at DraftKings)
Seton Hall vs. Marquette Spread
If there is one place Shaka Smart’s Marquette squad is vulnerable defensively, it is inside the arc and at the rim. Those defensive issues came to light in their last double overtime loss to Providence, allowing the Friars to shoot 22-for-42 (52.4%) from 2-point range and out-rebounding the Golden Eagles 48-33. However, Seton Hall is not built to take advantage of those deficiencies, as the Pirates shoot less than 50% from inside the arc (201st in the country) and rank outside the top 220 in the percentage of points that come from 2-point range.
Marquette is 15-7-1 ATS in its last 23 games against teams with a winning record, and we look for it to rise to the challenge and cover a rare spread as favorites in this rivalry (underdogs are 21-6 ATS in the last 27 meetings between these teams).
