Top College Basketball Picks for Monday, February 14 (2022)

Now that the NFL has concluded, college basketball is going to become a little more popular. Yes, March Madness is fun, but we’re nearing conference tournaments already. It’s mid-February. Every game matters just a little more!

Here are my top three favorite plays in college basketball for Monday, February 14.

St. Louis vs. St. Bonaventure: St. Louis +2.5 (-110) via DraftKings

(5:00 PM ET tip)

I took St. Louis against St. Bonaventure back on Friday, and I’ll do it again today. St. Louis lost on Friday, 68-61 at home, watching a six-game winning streak come to an end. With tape, adjustments, and a flat-out better team, I’m expecting bigger things from the Billikens tonight.

St. Louis is dominant on the offensive glass and has hit nearly 35 percent of threes on the season. Meanwhile, St. Bonaventure will limit turnovers a little more but shoots just 32.7 percent from three while rarely getting to the line. I’m looking to break about even with this St. Louis vs St. Bonaventure mini-series.

Bet: St. Louis +2.5 (-110)

American vs. Holy Cross: Holy Cross -2.5 (-110) via DraftKings

(7:00 PM ET tip)

If you like great basketball, don’t tune in. American and Holy Cross are two of the worst teams in college basketball, but really, I think American is just the worst defenses in college basketball. American has lost eight of its last nine games with the only win coming against Holy Cross 67-49.

But I’m ready to back Holy Cross at home despite that weird loss. American is allowing opponents to shoot 35.9 percent from deep and 56.3 percent from inside the arc. Plus, Holy Cross turns the ball over fewer times while earning more offensive rebounds and getting to the line more frequently. The analytics show that Holy Cross can play much better than that first game against American, and I believe it.

Bet: Holy Cross -2.5 (-110)

Dayton vs. Rhode Island: Dayton -2.5 (-110) via DraftKings

(9:00 PM ET tip)

What’s with all the 2.5 numbers today? Weird stuff. But Dayton has won five of its last six games with a loss to Saint Louis in the middle of the six games. Against Rhode Island at home, the Flyers only won 53-51 and struggled to score offensively.

However, the defense did their part and that led to a close victory for Dayton.

Ultimately, Rhode Island has not been good in conference play. The Rams had lost six straight games before knocking off Davidson at home 72-65. But the reality is, that type of offense isn’t going to come around very frequently for Rhode Island.

The 72 points were the most Rhode Island scored in a game since January 15. Dayton has the defense to shut them down and an offense that does a little bit more of everything.

Bet: Dayton -2.5 (-110)
