Top College Basketball Picks for Monday, February 7 (2022)

The basketball season is flying by. We’re a little over a month away from having a bracket. That’s always the best time of the year. But for now, we have to keep increasing the bankroll during the regular season to enjoy the postseason. So let’s waste no time. Here are my top three bets for tonight’s college basketball slate for Monday, February 7.

Charlotte vs. FIU: Charlotte (-105)

(5:00 PM ET tip)

The Florida International offense just hasn’t been what it used to be. FIU will always be a quality three-point shooting team, but there have to be other strengths to win games consistently. On offense, that’s not the case. FIU rarely gets to the line, shoots 49 percent from inside, and turns the ball over 20.1 percent of the time. That’s not going to get the job done.

Meanwhile, Charlotte shoots 36.5 percent from deep and 52.4 percent from inside. You won’t see the 49ers add a bunch of offensive rebounds, but they’ll limit turnovers and hit nearly 77 percent from the foul line.

I’ll take that offense over FIU’s offense any day.

Bet: Charlotte -110

Temple vs. South Florida: Temple -165

(7:00 PM ET tip)

If you don’t like juice, look away for a second. Temple has won six of their last seven games and is now 6-3 in conference play. They’ll take on a South Florida team with just one conference win on the season. South Florida has lost by double digits in every single conference loss.

The offense is shooting an effective field goal percentage of 41.5% because the Bulls are shooting 24.3 percent from three and 43.8 percent from inside the arc on the year. It’s been pitiful. Meanwhile, Temple holds teams to 29.7 percent from three and 45.6 percent from inside the arc.

This Temple defense, along with the improved offense in conference play, gives me the confidence to go ahead and take a -165 favorite in Temple. On paper, you’d think Temple should be a -250 favorite. And they should be.

Bet: Over 136 (-110)

Eastern Illinois vs. Tennessee Tech: Eastern Illinois +14

(7:00 PM ET tip)

Did we forget Eastern Illinois has won two of their last three games? Tennessee Tech has just five wins on the year and is now a 14-point favorite. That’s just too much, even while going up against one of the worst teams in college basketball.

Eastern Illinois has been solid enough defensively to keep this game close. Teams are shooting just 32.4 percent from deep and Eastern Illinois also rarely fouls and put teams on the line.

Tennessee Tech shoots just 31.4 percent from deep and 48 percent inside. They aren’t a great offense either. But the reality is, Tennessee Tech has lost six straight games and hasn’t been all that special. I’ll take the points and try not to watch.

Bet: Eastern Illinois +14 (-110)
