Top College Basketball Picks for Sunday, January 9th (2022)

In what has turned into the Big Ten’s day, Sunday is back and offers a few great games between Big Ten foes at the top of the conference. While the NFL wrapping up gets all the attention, we turn ours to a light college basketball slate that offers plenty of value.

Let’s take a closer look.

Northwestern vs. Ohio State: Ohio State -7.5 (-110)

(5:30 p.m. ET tip)

The Buckeyes looked poised to crack the top 10 heading into last week, before heading to Indiana and scoring just 51 points in a 67-51 defeat. In the loss, Ohio State shot just 30.8% from the field, well below their previous season average of 48.9%.

As for the visiting Wildcats in this one, they also come into this one following a loss, theirs against Penn State (74-70). In the defeat, Northwestern blew a 10-point lead late for their fourth loss of the season; all of which have been by six points or less.

While Northwestern’s efforts have been impressive thus far, I see Ohio State in a different tier and for that to shine through in this one.

Washington vs. Colorado: Colorado -9 (-110)

(5:00 p.m. ET tip)

We’re headed west for this one for a game between PAC-12 foes as conference play gets underway. For the home Buffs, they come into today looking for their fifth straight win, having just beaten Washington State on Thursday following a 13-2 run late.

Washington comes into this one following a win of their own, a 74-68 win at Utah on Thursday to pick up their first conference victory of the season. In this one, I like for the size of the Buggs to be too much vs. a Huskies team getting outrebounded by an average of 7+ boards per game.

Wisconsin vs. Maryland: Wisconsin -1 (-110)

(7:30 p.m. ET tip)

The Terrapins come into this Sunday night matchup in desperate search of their first Big Ten win in what has been a difficult road thus far. In their past two games, they’ve drawn two of the best scorers in the country in Iowa’s Keegan Murray and Illinois’ Kofi Cockburn.

Things likely won’t get any easier in this one as they now draw Johnny Davis from Wisconsin who comes into tonight averaging a nation-best 22.6 points per game. I like Davis and his swingman Brad Davison to be too much for the Terrapins tonight in College Park, despite what should be a raucous crowd.
