Top College Basketball Picks for Tuesday, February 1 (2022)

It’s February 1 and that means we’re getting closer to conference tournaments and March Madness. Once the Super Bowl concludes, all eyes will be on college basketball. I can’t wait! We’ve been the ones grinding all season, and we won’t stop now.

Here are my favorite bets for tonight’s slate on February 1.

Canisius vs. Siena: Siena -3.5

(7:00 PM ET tip)

In my opinion, Siena’s defense doesn’t get enough praise. Siena has held opponents to a 49.2 percent effective field goal percentage while limiting teams to 27.5 percent on the offensive glass. Opponents are only hitting 32.5 percent from three and 49.5 percent from inside.

Meanwhile, Canisius is shooting an effective field goal percentage of 45.2 percent while hitting just 30.2 percent from outside and 45 percent from inside. That’s not going to get the job done against Siena. Plus, Siena is sneaky from downtown, hitting 35.2 percent on the offensive end from deep.

I like Siena to cover the small spread.

Bet: Siena-3.5 (-110)

Northern Illinois vs. Western Michigan: Northern Illinois +2.5 (-118)

(7:00 PM ET tip)

Western Michigan is currently 0-9 in conference play. Northern Illinois will look to extend the streak to 10 on the road. Northern Illinois doesn’t have the best offense, but against Western Michigan, we might get breakout performances.

Western Michigan is allowing an effective field goal percentage of 55.4 percent while allowing 35.8 percent from downtown and 56.5 percent from inside the arc. Northern Illinois will look to score inside more times than not, so those are encouraging numbers. Western Michigan should also be able to find the line more often and win the offensive rebounding battle as Western Michigan has allowed teams to earn 33.7 percent offensive rebounds this season.

Lastly, Western Michigan turns the ball over 21.9 percent of the time, and Northern Illinois is earning 20.7 percent of turnovers on the season. The Broncos are also shooting plenty of threes and only hit at 32.2 percent while Northern Illinois is holding opponents to 31.9 percent from three. I like Northern Illinois to get back on track tonight.

Bet: Northern Illinois +2.5 (-118)

Texas vs. Texas Tech: Over 122.5 (-110)

(9:00 PM ET tip)

I know Texas has held its last three opponents to about 50 points per game. But Texas Tech is averaging nearly 75 points per game. Even if Texas is able to limit Texas Tech to 60 points, the over still has an easy shot if both teams hover around 60 and close out the game with 65 points.

The total jumped from 118.5 to 122.5 but I still like it at 122.5 and believe Texas Tech will be much better offensively than other teams have been against Texas this season.

Yesterday we took an under on 162.5, and tonight we’ll take an over on 122.5.

Bet: Over 122.5 (-110)
