Top College Basketball Picks for Tuesday, February 8 (2022)

Yesterday’s slate didn’t go as planned. The good news is that it was just Monday. Time to get the coins back on Tuesday’s slate after going 1-2 yesterday. Let’s waste no time and get right to my top three favorite picks for college basketball, for today, February 8.

Marquette vs. UConn: Marquette +6

(6:30 PM ET tip)

You’re likely going to see a trend with today’s play. I like the road team with points. A lot. We’ll start it off with Marquette, a team that has already knocked off Villanova and Seton Hall twice this season. Marquette did lose to UConn earlier this year, by eight, but have been terrific in Big East play.

Marquette can literally stick around with any team in the nation and as long as the Golden Eagles are executing and hitting shots from outside at a high rate, as expected, I like Marquette to at least cover this number against UConn.

The Golden Eagles will have to do a better job at keeping Connecticut off the offensive glass, but overall, as long as Marquette shoots at a high percentage, I like them to cover.

Bet: Marquette +6 (-110)

Villanova vs. St. John’s: Villanova -4

(7:00 PM ET tip)

I’ll take the road team here in Villanova. The Wildcats already defeated St. John’s earlier this season, by nine at home. Overall, Villanova is the much better team in this game.

St. John’s has struggled to defend at a high level all season and is allowing 33.4 percent offensive rebounds and 37 percent from three. Meanwhile, Villanova is earning 31.7 percent offensive rebounds and hitting 36.6 percent from long range this season.

The two biggest weaknesses for St. John’s are the two biggest strengths for Villanova.

Bet: Villanova -4 (-110)

Illinois vs. Purdue: Purdue +6

(9:00 PM ET tip)

Purdue and Illinois already played a double-overtime game earlier this season, with Purdue coming out on top late. But overall, Illinois was able to keep Purdue off the glass on the defensive end, allowing just 24.4 percent offensive rebounds in that game. Usually, Purdue is dominant on the glass, earning 37 percent of offensive rebounds.

I would also like to point out that while Purdue’s offense is one of the best in the nation, Illinois can stick around offensively, knowing that Purdue isn’t the best defense. The Boilermakers struggled to defend the three and overall aren’t nearly as elite defensively as Illinois.

So I’ll take Illinois on the road, as pretty big underdogs, in a game they can absolutely win outright.

Bet: Illinois +6 (-110)
