Top College Basketball Picks for Wednesday, February 23 (2022)

Wednesdays can get a bit overwhelming for a college basketball bettor. With so many games on the slate, it kind of feels like a Saturday. If you don’t know where to start, I’ve already looked through all the games and will provide you with my top three bets of tonight’s slate on February 23.

Creighton vs. St. John’s: Creighton +5 (-109)

(7:00 p.m. ET)

The Crieghton Bluejays already defeated the St. John’s Red Storm in January by 23. Now tonight on the road the Bluejays are five-point underdogs despite shooting over 50 percent from downtown in the first meeting against St. John’s.

The Johnnies are home, but that won’t stop Creighton right now. Creighton has won five straight games and is starting to prove just how good they can be. On the defensive end, Creighton has limited teams inside the arc and from getting to the foul line.

Meanwhile, St. John’s will likely earn more turnovers, but its shooting, rebounding, and foul line attempts won’t be as good as Creighton’s.

Bet: Creighton +130 at Caesars Sportsbook

Xavier vs. Providence: Providence -135

(7:00 p.m. ET)

I don’t mind being a square tonight. Providence has a chance to take the Big East if the Friars are able to win out. So if we’re getting a small moneyline price on Providence, I’ll take it. The Friars have won 17 of their last 19 games with losses to Marquette and Villanova. Against Xavier on the road the Friars held on, winning 65-62.

Providence won’t force a lot of turnovers but should make their way to the line. The Friars are slightly better on the offensive boards and should be able to hold Xavier’s three-point shooting in check.

Call me a square but I’m rolling with Providence. I love watching history being made and Providence has never won a Big East regular-season title. I want it to happen, especially after the year the Friars are having.

Bet: Providence -135 at DraftKings Sportsbook

Wake Forest vs. Clemson: Clemson +125

(7:00 p.m. ET)

Alright now, I’m back to being sharp, if that’s what you want to call it. The Clemson Tigers are 12-15 while the Wake Forest Demon Deacons are 21-7. But I like Clemson to win this game at home despite being underdogs.

Wake Forest lost two of its last three games and easily could’ve lost to Notre Dame at home on Saturday. On the other hand, Clemson has lost six straight games, but two of those games have come down to one possession.

The Tigers have a good enough offense to stick around, with a 52.3 percent effective field goal percentage and nearly 37 percent from downtown. Clemson has also been terrific on the defensive glass and should be able to keep Wake Forest from getting second chances most of the game. Give me Clemson!

Bet: Clemson +125 at DraftKings
