Top MLB Betting Odds & Picks for Saturday, May 22 (2022)

We’ve got a ton of exciting baseball today. We’re going to get plenty of day games and a double-header between the Yankees and White Sox. That’ll keep us occupied throughout the day!

Here are my top three bets for the MLB slate on May 22.

(Odds courtesy DraftKings)

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Philadelphia Phillies

It seems like the Dodgers aren’t having the best of seasons. However, they’re currently 27-12 and are having a fantastic season to start.

Tony Gonsolin will take the mound for the Dodgers. In the last 30 days, Gonsolin has a 4.01 xFIP with 27.8% of strikeouts. He’s also induced nearly 46% of ground balls while allowing just 18.8% of line drives in the last 30 days.

Gonsolin has been above-average and has an ERA of 1.64 on the season. He’ll go up against the Phillies and their offense with a .135 ISO and wOBA of .286 in the last 30 days against righties.

On the other hand, Zach Eflin will give it a go for the Phillies. He has an ERA of 3.90 with an xFIP of 4.47 in the last 30 days. Eflin can get grounders and keep line drives away but is only earning 16.7% strikeouts in the previous 30 days. He has struggled a bit against lefties, and the Dodgers have some good ones in their lineup. Roll with the Dodgers today.

Bet: Dodgers (-135 at DraftKings)

Seattle Mariners vs. Boston Red Sox

I know Nathan Eovaldi hasn’t been at his best recently. But he’s going to come around. Today could be that day. Eovaldi has a 4.32 ERA on the season while walking just 3.6% of batters in the last 30 days. His strikeouts have been average at 20.5% in those 30 days, but ultimately, he’s also limited line drive percentages of 15.3%.

On the other hand, the Mariners will pitch Logan Gilbert, who has a 2.40 ERA. In the last 30 days, Gilbert has a 3.97 xFIP while striking out over 30% of batters.

If Eovaldi can get back on track against an average Mariners lineup and Gilbert can continue to put away a bunch of batters, this total will stay lower than 9.5.

Bet: Under 9.5 (-115 at DraftKings)

Cincinnati Reds vs. Toronto Blue Jays

Graham Ashcraft will get the first major league start of his career today, and he will fill a hole for Connor Overton, who won’t be able to make today’s start. Ashcraft has an ERA of 2.48 in Triple-A and a WHIP of over 1.50.

Ashcraft might’ve been able to work around trouble in the minors, but things will be different in the majors.

Meanwhile, the Blue Jays will pitch Yusei Kikuchi, who has been earning a high amount of strikeouts and walking guys like it’s his day job.

Both pitchers should struggle in the early going. Take the over between two offenses that can do damage today.

Bet: Over 8.5 (+100 at Caesars)
