Texas Rangers vs. Colorado Rockies Team Total O/U

Rangers starting pitcher Martin Perez (9-4, 2.80) earned his first All-Star nomination after a stellar first half, especially in May, where he went 4-0 with a 0.64 ERA and led his team to six wins in his six starts. However, it has been much rougher sledding for Perez since, and he is about to enter a start in Coors Field that can cannibalize even the best of pitchers.

Perez’s 8.03 K/9 rate ranks third among all Rangers starting pitchers, and his metrics suggest he is fortunate to have the numbers he does. Perez’s xERA is 3.33, and his xFIP (3.75) is considerably worse than his actual 3.39 FIP. His barrel percentage is elite in the 92nd percentile but should face regression considering the lefty only ranks in the 19th percentile in whiff rate. If Perez is not striking out Rockies hitters consistently, he could struggle against a lineup that is best in the majors with a .312 BABIP.

The Rockies have the table-setters necessary for a big offensive day against Perez: Charlie Blackmon (5-for-6 against Perez) and C.J. Cron (7-for-22, one home run against Perez). Perez’s 4.30 ERA through four August starts is on pace to be by far his worst of any month, and we expect Colorado to capitalize on his downturn.

Bet: Colorado Rockies Team Total OVER 5.5 (+115 at DraftKings)

Cleveland Guardians vs. San Diego Padres ML

The Padres are proving that winning the Trade Deadline does not necessarily mean it will correlate to success on the field. San Diego has not done much with its shiny new toys, as they are just 7-11 since Juan Soto, Josh Bell and company has been on the roster. That record is even more disappointing, considering 14 of those games have been against sub-.500 teams.

Meanwhile, Cal Quantrill (9-5, 3.77) has not lost any of his previous eight starts and has allowed no earned runs in two of his last three starts.

The Guardians are 9-3 in their last 12 road games against teams with a winning record and will be motivated to continue to put distance between them and the Twins and White Sox in the American League Central.

Bet: Cleveland Guardians ML (+140 at DraftKings)

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Kansas City Royals F5 O/U

Today’s starting pitching matchup may not be as eye-popping as the one between Justin Verlander and Dylan Cease last week, but it should be every bit as intriguing, even if it flies much more under the radar.

Zac Gallen (9-2, 2.78) and Brady Singer (6-4, 3.27) are on the path to becoming household names. Gallen enters this start with a 21.1 consecutive scoreless innings streak and has won five straight decisions since last losing on June 10. Gallen has pitched to a minuscule 1.18 ERA and 0.72 WHIP in his previous seven appearances, and his 6.7% walk percentage is on pace to be by far the best of his young career.

Gallen’s 1.13 ERA is best among all starting pitchers over the previous 30 days, but Singer’s 1.95 ERA is not too far behind at tenth. He also has a sub-3.00 FIP and ranks sixth in the American League in WAR in that span. Singer has been lights out since his break-out start against the Yankees when he held them scoreless on one hit in seven innings at Yankee Stadium.

The under has cashed in seven of Arizona’s last eight road games, and these two starting pitchers will ensure the under is on the way to cashing again through the first five innings.

Bet: Diamondbacks-Royals F5 UNDER 3.5 (-110 at DraftKings)
