Tuesday's Best MLB Picks
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Toronto Blue Jays (-218) at Chicago White Sox (+180) | O/U 8.5 (-102/-118)
The Blue Jays have been underachieving this season, and in the tough American League East, they are currently in last place. The offense and defense have been brutal this season, as they're 25th in runs scored and 24th in ERA. The offense was supposed to carry this team, but besides Vladimir Guerrero Jr., they're not getting much of contributions, especially with the power numbers. Kevin Gausman was their ace last year. He's had some rough patches but he's been better recently with back-to-back quality starts.
It's been a disaster for the White Sox, as they are sitting with the worst record in the league. They have lost six straight and 10 of their last 11, with the only win coming against the Blue Jays. The offense sits last in batting average, slugging and OPS, but the pitching has been slightly better, 29th in ERA and 18th in opponent batting average. Mike Clevinger has not pitched well since returning to the White Sox earlier this month. He's yet to pitch out of the fifth and has allowed three home runs and five walks in his last two starts.
Neither pitcher has a good track record against their opponents. The White Sox are hitting .348 against Gausman, while the Jays are .300 against Clevinger. Look for a high-scoring game.
Bet: Over 8.5 (-102)
New York Yankees (-175) at Los Angeles Angels (+145) | O/U 8.5 (-122/+102)
The Yankees have ascended to one of the top teams, as their 37-18 record is the best in the American League. The pitching has been stellar, especially the rotation, who have gone 14 straight games pitching at least five innings and allowing three runs or fewer. The offense is also one of the best, leading the league in slugging and on-base percentage. Aaron Judge has been on the best streak of his career, and his 11 home runs and 12 doubles in the last 20 games is the first time this has happened since 1901. Nestor Cortes gets the ball. He's been much better this year after regression in 2023. He is coming in having pitched 13 consecutive scoreless innings.
The Angels are in an abyss of baseball as it's another year at the bottom of the American League West. Not having Mike Trout hurts this team, but the offense has been solid, ranking 15th in runs scored and 10th in slugging. Pitching is hurting the team, as they are 27th in ERA. Griffin Canning made a complete turnaround in May. He has a 1.99 ERA in his last four starts, dropping his overall ERA by two runs in that span.
The Angels have only gone 1-3 in those starts because of a lack of run support and bullpen struggles. The Yankees should be able to hold down this underperforming team.
Bet: Yankees -1.5 (-112)
