Updated 2022 Tour de France Betting Guide, Odds & Predictions
Stage 12 of the 2022 Tour de France is officially upon us, as Stage 11 finished up earlier today in Col du Serre Chevalier. The ride from Albertville was certainly one to remember, as the entire field was shaken up as we now are past the halfway point of the 21-stage race.
Coming into the day, Nairo Quintana had the yellow jacket, but Danish racer Jonas Vineggaard had a stage to remember. Taking the lead around the halfway mark, Vineggaard finished the stage nearly three full minutes ahead of Quintana who struggled out of the gates. Prior favorites Tadej Pogacar and Primoz Roglic also struggled, both losing pace as the stage got started and steeply sliding down the leaderboards.
While Vineggaard is now the odds-on favorite, as his Jumbo-Visma team continues up the leaderboard, the Alps will likely continue to benefit the Danish rider who has excelled in such conditions. As we depart the Alps later this week, however, Pogacar is not yet convinced things are out of reach, as he enters Stage 12 in 7th place.
Anything is possible for the 23-year-old phenom, as well as the other elite races in the field, as the home stretch begins on Thursday with just eight stages remaining. Beginning in Briancon and finishing in Alpe D’Heuz, the most difficult mountain stages will be complete as of the weekend.
Let’s take a closer look at Stage 12, and a bet I’m keyed in on for the race in totality.

Tour de France Best Bets
Top 3 - Geraint Thomas (-155)
Stage 12 on Thursday will be challenging for many reasons, but most notably the high winds which are always a factor in the 165.1 km sprint. Coming down into the Maurienne Valley, the highs are as high as 2,000m, with two major dips throughout the stretch.
With this stage being in rotation for the first time since 2018, Geraint Thomas was the last winner of it, propelling himself to a 2018 Tour de France win in the process. Currently in 4th place, I expect a strong Stage 12 to push Thomas into the top three, as the yellow jersey should set him up well for the second half of this race.
The Welshman also has some recent successes on his side, winning the Tour de Romandie last year, and the Tour de Suisse earlier this season. Very much still able to compete at the sport’s very top, I like a late push in this race from Thomas that puts him on the podium come to the end.
