WNBA Best Bets, Picks & Predictions: Sunday (5/21)

The WNBA season has begun, and the league has many opportunities to make money.

WNBA has truly grown over the years. There are so many more amazing athletes in the game that make women’s basketball more fun to watch.

It’s even better when you can watch and cash some bets, so we’ll be looking to do that today.

Here are a couple of best bets for today’s WNBA action. Both games will be a part of the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Washington Mystics at Connecticut Sun

The Washington Mystics won in their first game of the season against the New York Liberty, 80-64. Natasha Cloud added 14 points and shot 42.9% from the field for the Mystics.

Washington had an average offensive rating but looked good defensively, holding New York to 64 points. The Mystics assisted on 71.9% of shots made but struggled to do much of anything on the offensive glass. They’re also average on the defensive glass.

However, the Mystics shot an effective field goal percentage of 50%. If they can keep that up, they’ll be near the top of the standings this year.

Meanwhile, Connecticut defeated the Indiana Fever, 70-61, in their first game of the season. DeWanna Bonner added 19 points in that game, while Alyssa Thomas did most of the dirty work. Connecticut shot an effective field goal percentage of 34.8%. If that continues, Connecticut will have trouble consistently winning. Still, despite missing shots, the Sun added 38% of offensive rebounds, so they’re at least active on the glass.

I like Connecticut to shoot better and believe they’ll be much better on the offensive glass than Washington. Let’s back Connecticut at -1.

Bet: Connecticut Sun -1 (-110)

Indiana Fever at New York Liberty

The New York Liberty looked horrible in the first game of the season. The Liberty scored only 64 points and gave up 80 to Washington.

New York has a bunch of talent and should turn things around. Maybe it’ll just take a couple of games for everyone to get used to one another. The Liberty weren’t impressive offensively but did some good things defensively. The Liberty grabbed nearly 85% of defensive rebounds in the first game.

They’ll need to limit turnovers and shoot at a higher percentage and that’s likely with a home game against the Indiana Fever.

Indiana only scored 61 points in a loss to Connecticut. Indiana will turn the ball over just as much as New York. We’ll also see fewer assists from Indiana and fewer offensive rebounds.

After watching New York in their first game, it’s hard to accept a line at -14.5 for the Liberty. They didn’t play up to their expectations to start the season. I have to see them shine before I can lay 14.5.

Give me Indiana at +14.5.

Bet: Indiana Fever +14.5 (-110)
